Job summary

This role will appeal to you if you are a registered mental health nurse ( RMN) looking to take your next step in your career or a new challenge in older people's mental health.

Our friendly and supportive team, works Mon-Fri 8.30am-4.30pm and is based at Chase Farm Hospital, Enfield.

Enfield Memory Service is an accredited service with MSNAP (Memory Services National Accreditation Programme) and is committed to on-going service and staff development

EMS has developed a dynamic model of assessment where the clinical team carry out comprehensive assessments, supported by a 'floating consultant' and develop care/treatment plans to offer a range of interventions . You will manage your own caseload, carry out specialist assessments and provide a person centred approach, including support for family carers.

Main duties of the job

  • To actively manage an allocated caseload of people through the memory service pathway, ensuring a person-centred approach to care; assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating care needs
  • To carry out triage calls to people newly referred to the service
  • To undertake specialist assessments and feedback to the reviewing consultant.
  • To determine clinical priorities and plan patient care accordingly, based on thorough risk assessment and risk management plans.
  • To communicate effectively both verbally and in writing,including report writing .
  • Supervising students and junior staff

EMS consists of a supportive multidisciplinary team, dedicated to providing high standards of memory assessment, treatment and support. The team has weekly team meetings, twice yearly team days, and has recently started a monthly academic meeting. The service is MSNAP accredited, works closely with the older people's community mental health team, and has close links with Enfield Age UK

Barnet, Enfield & Haringey MH Trust is rated 'Good' following a recent CQC visit and Older People's Community Mental Health Services, within the BEH MH Trust achieved an 'Outstanding' rating.

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS

Essential

  • Professional registration ( RMN) with the NMC. Evidence of ongoing CPD in their portfolio

Desirable

  • Evidence of further study, particularly in the field of Dementia care, or older people's mental health
  • Teaching and Assessing/Practice Educator training

EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE

Essential

  • Knowledge and experience of Clinical Risk Assessment and Risk Management
  • Knowledge of the Mental Capacity Act and experience in assessing mental capacity
  • A working knowledge of Information Governance, confidentiality and consent.
  • Awareness and understanding of safeguarding processes and procedures.

Desirable

  • Specialist knowledge of assessments and interventions relevant to mental health, dementia and older people
  • Knowledge of and experience in using cognitive assessments( ACE 111, RUDAS)
  • Experience of working in a mental health community or clinic setting in mental health services for older people

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Able to demonstrate knowledge of a range of mental health issues affecting older people including depression, dementia, and delirium
