Job summary

We require a friendly and enthusiastic individual to work as a Housekeeper on our Older People Mental Health ward - Silver Birches.

Housekeepers are responsible for providing and maintaining a high standard of cleanliness and the provision of food. As a housekeeper you will work as part of the Multidisciplinary team to provide a clean, safe and supportive environment on the ward.

You will need to be passionate and enthusiastic about patient care putting patients at the heart of everything you do. You will be working in a multi-professional team and will need to be able to think on the spot and be empathetic. You will be passionate about our business, creating a culture of continuous improvement.

Experience in cleaning duties and use of chemicals and equipment are essential as you will be working in a demanding environment. Also any catering and food service experience would be appreciated along with a passion to providing high standards of customer service.

Candidates should have a good standard of English (written and spoken) and knowledge of basic food hygiene

Main duties of the job

Patient/customer care (both direct and indirect)

Cleaning:

  • To assist in monitoring and maintaining cleaning standards on the ward
  • To carry out spot cleaning and ensure spillages are dealt with swiftly and efficiently
  • To ensure the ward is always safe and tidy, removing clutter, tidy notice boards, signage etc
  • To maintain upkeep of patient's bed areas
  • To ensure isolation procedures are adhered to
  • Monitor and restock clinical rooms, sluice, store cupboards and monitor cleaning schedules to include cleaning inside and outside cupboards and replacing sharps bins
  • Clean and restock sluice equipment, cupboards, open shelves, bedpans, urinals, commodes and wash bowls
  • Act at all times in accordance with infection control policies and local guidelines and report breaches to nurse in charge
  • Assist in cleaning beds of discharged patients and ensuring that the bed area is ready for the next admission in line with local protocol
  • Monitor condition of air vents and liaise with Hotel Services when they require cleaning
  • In liaison with hotel services ensure that there are sufficient supplies of gloves, aprons and alcohol gel hand rub available throughout the ward to enable effective infection control procedures
  • In liaison with senior team leader, conduct daily and weekly cleaning audits in line with Trust policy and local guidelines
