Job summary

We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic, skilled, approachable and motivated consultant to join the Barnet Enfield and Haringey CAMHS division to help in managing the care of young people living within the north central London and collaborative.

This is an excellent opportunity for a consultant who would like to work within a day hospital setting and a well-functioning and expanded paediatric liaison service with excellent medical leadership across both services. The day hospital is situated in a separate but well linked day service provision based in the Beacon Centre Building, although structurally separate.

This is a new post that has been specifically created to reduce the number of inpatient bed days within the NCEL (North Central and East London inpatient services) collaborative as part of the new models of care with the explicit aim to reduce the number of inpatient bed days and prevent admission to an inpatient unit in young people who could continue to live in the community with their parents or carers.

Main duties of the job

The beacon general adolescent unit is a 12 bedded inpatient unit with a day service provision for five young people. The unit has undergone a CQC inspection in September 2020 and received a good rating in all domains.

The unit has recently been reviewed by QNIC and the service has been commended for the changes that have been made over the course of the past 12 months to improve the quality and effectiveness of care provided for the young people within the unit.

This is a split post; the appointed condition will work as part of a well-functioning multidisciplinary team based in Barnet General Hospital and provide psychiatric care to young people admitted on the paediatric ward (Galaxy ward). The appointed person will be working with a well lead MDT that provides compassionate and evidence-based care for young people presenting to the A&E either in crisis are young people admitted on the paediatric ward w where it is likely to be a psychological component to the presenting problems.
