Job summary
Ward 3 at The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital Birmingham is a friendly fast paced 24 bedded Orthopaedic Oncology Ward.The age range of our patients is from 16 to old age. We treat primarily elective patients from their diagnostic biopsies and scans through to definitive therapeutic surgeries. We also care for patients having arthroplasty surgeries, and replacement joint revision surgeries.
As a nursing team, we have made vast improvements to develop our nursing processes to ensure that we provide the best in nursing care to our patients. We pride ourselves in ensuring that we consistently challenge ourselves to provide the best care to our patients to ensure they can recover from their operation and return home with an improved quality of life.
On Ward 3 the focus of nursing and physiotherapy care is streamlining pathways and process and ensuring that patients receive the best care possible.

Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will be responsible for the daily smooth running of the ward from admission to discharge. They will ensure safe care staffing standards are adhered to with safety, infection control, governance, audits, staff support and development addressed on a daily basis.
The successful candidate will co-ordinate patient care, attend ward rounds, liase with support teams and therapists and communicate effectively with all members of the ward team. Your leadership and communication skills will be tested daily as you will co-ordinate complex discharges and patient transportation whilst admitting pre-op and post op patient's and receiving patients back from HDU.
ROH is a teaching hospital. We support students from all allied health professions.
