Job summary

The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (ROHFT) is in the process of modernising its IT systems to improve efficiency and patient care to support its strategic requirements.

A opportunity has arisen for a driven and highly competent Radiology Systems / PACS Manager. We are seeking an enthusiastic and highly motivated individual, willing to lead the delivery of a high-quality service.

The successful candidate will have proven experience in this field including specialist knowledge of IT systems such as Picture Archive Communication Systems (PACS), Radiology Information Systems (RIS), CRIS, Image Exchange Portal (IEP).

As the Radiology Systems / PACS manager you will be responsible for management and development of the IT systems supported by this post. Maintaining effective service delivery, responding to evolving clinical and non-clinical service needs. The postholder will be an expert in all issues relating to and affecting PACS and associated clinical systems. Leading on projects to support service development, quality, and improvements. It will also be essential to support training and development of clinical and non-clinical staff in relation to PACS.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work closely with the IT and Radiology teams to ensure that the clinical images are available where required for patient management, diagnosis and treatment and will liaise closely with all clinical teams and departments. The Picture Archive Communications System (PACS) manager will also work closely with the Applications Team to ensure cross skilling is in place and that appropriate monitoring is maintained to ensure that the PACS and CRIS system is fully functional to its required performance. This position is critical in maintaining operational flow, maintenance and the development of services and systems within the scope of the role.

Job description

Job responsibilities

  • The post holder will implement the Radiology IT strategy and will ensure the programme is delivered in line with all relevant clinical/business/legal requirements.
  • In accordance with the above, the post holder will be responsible for creating, maintaining and implementing/enforcing a variety of departmental and Trust-wide policies and processes, all underpinned by good governance and standards. Complete service and contract management of the various systems and their vendors, along with any future procurement processes and contract negotiations form a significant part of the role.
  • Core systems currently within remit include, but are not limited to, the Picture Archiving and Communications System (GE PACS), Radiology Information System (Wellbeing CRIS), Image Exchange Portal (IEP) and Orthoview Orthopaedic Templating System. These systems underpin clinical operations across the Trust.
  • The post holder is also responsible for the leadership and continuing development of Radiology Systems team, which currently includes a system administrator performing specific BAU functions including IEP and Project support work for upgrades of systems. It is expected that the post holder will develop the PACS team and lead on the recruitment of a dedicated team.
  • Effectively manage all staffing issues with the Radiology IT team on a day-to-day basis, including management of recruitment, performance management, sickness management, staff development, training, grievances and initiating disciplinary action where necessary acting in accordance with Trust policies and procedures
  • Develop strategies to recruit and retain the appropriate staff skill mix across all Trust sites and in accordance with Trust recruitment procedures
  • Provide appraisals to team members and ensure they have personal development plans in line with Trust policy that includes feedback from a selection of internal customers and team members.
