Job summary

The post holder will be a key member of the Business Intelligence Team whose overarching goal is to enable, promote and support the effective use of data and information within the Trust.

The post holder will provide high level technical expertise to lead the development, design and maintenance of the trust's data warehouse and Business Intelligence applications.

Main duties of the job

Responsible for developing new datasets to enhance the existing data warehouse, which will involve developing SSIS packages, writing TSQL code, developing stored procedures/functions.

Responsible for the development of complex ETL processes and maintenance of existing ETL processes. Ensuring any system errors are investigated and resolved.

Proactively seek to investigate and identify complex data anomalies. Resolving process generated data anomalies through updating system processes and communicating process/people generated data anomalies to the relevant teams.

Routinely horizon-scan for new and upcoming Business Intelligence and predictive analysis methodologies that may be of use to the Trust, and create documented proposals for the application of new technologies.

The post-holder will have excellent project management and planning skills and will make use of techniques such as detailed planning and issue logs to ensure that programmes of work are completed on time ensuring optimum quality.

The post holder will have organisational skills to both manage their own workload and seek to influence priorities for others within given timescales and meet key Trust targets

Job responsibilities

To play a key role in terms of training and support within the organisation to ensure that all areas relating to activity information and variations are understood, and that the use of information is embedded into the culture of the organisation

Perform strict quality checks and validation of the systems that form part of the data warehouse, working closely with users to ensure any data quality issues are highlighted and addressed.

Ensure all data held within the data warehouse has been quality assured and validated.

Design, code, test and implement efficient and robust database schemas plus SQL Queries, Views, Stored Procedures, and Triggers as part of Business Intelligence development

Updating, repairing, modifying and developing existing and new applications

Lead in design, development and implementation of new information feeds, ETL processes and data marts required by the Information Department to support the Trusts activities.

Support the Trusts Information Manager and Data Warehouse Manager in the development and delivery of a new range of operational reports and performance dashboards, providing performance management and decision-making information to staff across the Trust

Advise and participate in the implementation of projects relating to new or replacement clinical/operational systems. Ensuring informatics provision of integrated solutions and user objectives are achieved.

Support the activities of project boards and project teams and making presentations to all levels of staff.

Assist in the procurement, implementation and support of new systems which may be required to deliver information to managers and clinicians.

Ensure any project management documentation or reports are delivered in line with agreed standards and timescales.

Be able to balance and prioritise conflicting deadlines from current development projects and deal with ad hoc requests.

Be able to deal immediately with complex systems issues whilst meeting deadlines of routine work

Be able to take corrective action regarding systems maintenance as required on a daily basis

Fully document all reports and systems developed

Provide support or project management for implementation of NHS Information Standards Notices (ISNs), as required.

Lead on specific Information Governance Standards compliance as directed.

Promote a wider understanding of data quality and its implications throughout the Trust.

Be aware of and promote national and local policies, issues, and initiatives relating to data collected and stored by the Trust.

Ensure that the data is maintained in line with national definitions as laid down in the NHS Data Manual and Data Dictionary, with necessary updates for Information Standards Notices (ISNs). Ensure the data warehouse reference tables match the NHS data dictionary.

Support and train analysts on the data warehouse system architecture and data structure.

Provide training on NHS Standards and Data Dictionary.
