Job summary

Working with partners in the Birmingham and Solihull Integrated Care System, The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital is hosting the Musculoskeletal (MSK) Transformation Programme. This system-wide programme aims to reduce health inequality, support community health and improve local MSK services.

The Clinical Programme Manager will lead workstreams within the MSK Transformation Programme, enabling these benefits to be realised.

The post holder will be a dynamic and charismatic leader with proven expertise in delivering complex improvement programmes. They will need to support the integrity and coherence of their programmes in line with the Trust's values and drive and maintain enthusiasm and momentum through to delivery and benefits realisation.

Main duties of the job

  • Lead the development and implementation of a clinical decision-making support tool which optimises MSK pathways and releases operational benefits to Birmingham and Solihull Integrated Care System (BSol ICS)
  • Ensure that once embedded, this tool is supported by robust clinical governance and appropriate oversight to ensure safety and quality
  • Support the wider MSK Transformation Programme workstreams, providing clinical insight, expert advice and guidance to enable successful benefits realization
  • Provide senior leadership within the Trust, supporting internal improvement initiatives and collaborating with BSol ICS to improve local healthcare services

As a highly skilled Clinical Programme Manager, the post holder will be responsible for ensuring effective expertise and support is provided to the MSK Transformation Programme.

They will ensure their programme workstream is well managed using excellent programme and project management skills.

They will be a strategic thinker, able to understand the strategic, organisational and political environment, using expert judgement to navigate the best way to implement new systems and build clinical engagement and make decisions in an autonomous manner.

Work autonomously, responsible for the day-to-day organisation of own diary and tasks within the post holders portfolio, balancing the need for proactive service development and portfolio management against the reactive demand of organisational priorities and timescales.

They will be highly influential with excellent interpersonal skills and will be able to work constructively across organisations, with stakeholders at all levels.

The post holder will work as part of the Service Improvement Team and, when required, will take responsibility for issues outside their immediate sphere of responsibility.

The post holder will line manage members of the Service Improvement Team as and when required and support with appraisals; sickness absence; recruitment and selection decisions. Provide improvement expertise and support, and project management support to improvement programmes.

The post holder will be used to working autonomously, is comfortable with ambiguity and complexity, and is able to work to tight deadlines.
