Job summary

We are looking for a highly motivated individual's to join the Admissions booking team at Wrightington Hospital, for a full time position.

Please be aware that if you are successful you will be required to present original certificates for all of the qualifications which you hold (as listed on your application) in order to demonstrate that you meet the criteria outlined in the person specification.

We are recruiting to a 37.5 hour permanent post.

Main duties of the job

To be operationally responsible for the management of elective specialist orthopaedic admissions.Ensuring records are retrieved and prepared for the admission function. Delivering a quality andtimely admissions service for patients admitted to Wrightington Hospital in line with the TrustAccess Policy.

Job description

Job responsibilities

  • Adding patients to the inpatient waiting list
  • Booking patients for a pre-operative assessment
  • Chasing pre-operative assessment results
  • Booking patients in for their operation, by phoning the patients
  • Attending weekly meeting, to discuss the operating lists
  • Meeting with consultants and their team, to discuss upcoming theatre lists
  • Providing daily updates to the Manager/Supervisor's regarding your upcoming theatre lists
  • Managing your own 'patient tracker list' to assist you with booking patients in date and priority order
  • Covering team members when on leave or sickness
  • Distribute via email full operating lists, to relevant parties
  • Keep up-to-date electronic diaries for your consultant's and their team
  • Liaise with theatre staff and theatre coordinator, re specialist equipment and custom implants etc
  • Take phone calls from patients regarding wait times and passed fit status from their pre-operative assessment

Planning and Organisational Duties

  • Ensure Consultant Management Reports are kept up-to-date and queries therefor are dealt within a timely manner i.e. checking TCI eligibility, specialist theatre kit ordering etc
  • Responsible for Direct Booking of Consultant Operation lists/Ward Admissions and informingClinical Teams of progress.
  • Liaise with Medical Secretaries regarding Consultant availability; additions to the waiting listensuring replacement of cancellations are made to achieve full capacity. Identify bed availabilityfor admissions in liaison with other relevant Departments
  • Responsible for selecting patients for admission, ensuring all Access Policies and Proceduresare complied with in order to allow all theatre sessions.
  • Liaise with Theatre staff regarding availability of Specialist Equipment required for patients.
  • Liaise with the Bone Co-Ordinator regarding patient admission dates and identify on theAdmissions Manager System the type and amount of bone required following a decision at theClinical Conference (Orthopaedic Admissions).
  • Provide advice and guidance to patients regarding their admission details
  • Deal and direct all patient/client enquiries and correspondence to relevant departments in atimely manner.

Communications and Key Working Relationships

  • Daily contact with Consultant/Nurse Teams working on the in-patient pathway to organise/reprofile or flag up patient priorities to support the admissions process.
  • Liaise with other non-clinical staff on the elective care treatment pathway to ensure patientprogress and admission is in line with the Trust Access Policies & Procedures.
  • Negotiate date of admission with patients in accordance with the Trust access policy fororthopaedic clinical teams.
  • Check patient admission offers and chase up outstanding offer responses.
  • Collate and distribute weekly orthopaedic admissions lists.
  • Deal with patient correspondence/telephone queries in relation to elective admission, usingthe correct documents to deal with the various actions
  • Good understanding of the PAS System, Admissions Manager System and other workrelated systems in order to complete specified duties acquired through experience ofspecialist orthopaedic/rheumatology services. i.e. patient registration, end user letters,waiting list recording and administration
