Wrightington Wigan & Leigh Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

Divisional Director of Maternity & Child Health

The closing date is 05 April 2026

Job summary

Our current Director of Midwifery is retiring in the summer, so I am now looking for an experienced senior midwife to join my team. You will be the service users voice, a role model for our staff, an innovative thinker that's wants to transform our services, a unitary part of my senior leadership team and have a vested interest in the way in which we provide maternity services across the Wigan Borough.

You will have the essential criteria and both the clinical and academic credibility that is outlined within the JD and PS, but I am looking for more. We want to be a flagship unit, with a positive open and inclusive culture. Whilst being the senior Midwife within the Divisional Triumvirate working with the Director of Operations and Medical Director for the division, this post reports directly into me. I'm looking for a confident leader, who is professionally curious and has a challenging yet critical eye to triangulating everything.

I'm keen to hear from Maternity leaders who represent the demographic of both our people and our service users. You will have the autonomy but support to lead our teams. Population health, Health inequalities, and neighbourhood transformation is high on our agenda.

Recruitment will be a two-way process; it is important that we are the right team for you and so informal conversations and due diligence prior to shortlisting are being encouraged. We want to be the best and so I am looking for the best.
