Consultant in Acute Medicine (part time)

Job summary

We are currently seeking one Consultant to work 7.75 programmed activities (PAs) per week.

The Acute Medicine service is a core component of the Trust's Medicine Division, delivering high-quality care to a wide range of acutely unwell patients across the Acute Assessment Units and the Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) unit at the Royal Albert Edward Infirmary, Wigan.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will support the delivery of high-quality acute care across the Royal Albert Edward Infirmary. Responsibilities include:

  • Providing high quality consultant-delivered care to patients
  • Ensuring patient safety, dignity and care are given the highest priority
  • Being proactive in ensuring that patients receive rapid assessment, treatment and clinical decision making
  • Undertaking clinical leadership and supervision, teaching and training of junior medical staff
  • Liaising with clinicians and managers to address any issues arising that may affect the services
  • Contributing to the ongoing development of the acute medicine services at WWL
  • There may be opportunities to pursue an area of specialist interest, eg developing new services or pathways

  • Commitment to training and teaching of junior medical staff and other health professionals
  • Experience in clinical supervision

Desirable

  • Formal leadership training
  • CCT or HST in Respiratory Medicine
  • Additional Experience of working in dedicated Medical Admissions unit or equivalent
  • Previous experience of leading a team
