37.5 hours per week working Saturday 8am-8pm, Sunday 8am-8pm and x2 weekday shifts (days and times are dependent on the operational requirements of the department).

Main duties of the job

To oversee the day-to-day co-ordination of each aspect of the SSDU. This person will be responsible for the allocation and co-ordination of staffing to each of the discrete areas within the unit (x4). This will help to ensure the smooth running of the service during the shift, of around 30 /40 people.

This role will undertake the first point of reference for the team leaders in terms of technical enquiries, advice in terms of the application of quality standards, and adherence to safe working practice within the unit across work areas.

This role will be the primary point of contact for service users, being the first line response for complaint, incident, and technical enquiries and will be the point of liaison with logistics and theatre staff across all representatives of the theatres across SRFT and WWL.

The post holder will be expected to continually seek ways to improve the processes and procedures within the unit that will sustain effective and efficient ways of working which will drive the continuous improvement of service performance.

Job responsibilities

To manage all Team leaders, Senior Technician and Technicians on duty on a particular shift and provide leadership and direction throughout the shift To make decisions based upon current workload and throughout to ensure that staff are deployed into the most appropriate area to ensure the unit remains efficient. To ensure all Emergency Requests are followed through within the necessary timescales to avoid cancellation or delays to patient treatment. Always Ensure strict adherence to the documented Quality Management System in all areas and report deficiencies to the Decontamination Manager and Quality/Governance Manager. To act as the single point of contact for all Customers and Supervisors to ensure continuity and direction to all individuals on duty. Close liaison with Senior Theatre Staff and departmental staff is essential to ensure that their clinical needs are met To report any defective equipment to the Estates Department (in hours) or the On-Call Engineer (out of hours). To escalate any potential service outage that may delay product throughput that are likely to last more than 2 hours to the Decontamination Manager and On-Call Manager. To authorise unit machinery such as washer-disinfectors, ultrasonic irrigators or sterilizers be taken out of action for testing by Engineering staff. Where equipment is subject to a maintenance programme, there must be full co-operation with the Maintenance staff to limit the loss of production due to breakdown. No machinery should be used if it is unsafe or fails to meet accepted performance standards. This must be marked as Out of Action and recorded in the log and escalated to the Production Manager. Ensure that any medical equipment requiring maintenance or repair is dispatched promptly to the appropriate repairer in accordance with Department of Health guidelines.
