Job summary

Are you a highly motivated, experienced midwife with a passion for screening, looking for a new challenge?

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced band 6 midwife to join our established Antenatal and Newborn Screening Team, supporting the screening coordinator to ensure a high quality antenatal and newborn screening service is provided for all women and their families.

To achieve this theAntenatal and Newborn Screening Team work in collaboration with local programme clinical leads to ensure NHS England screening programme standards are met and will monitor the quality and effectiveness of the screening services offered in the Trust.

Main duties of the job

  • Manage screen positive results across the screening pathways.
  • Counsel women and their families in the event of a high risk or antenatal screen positive result.
  • Collect and collate matched cohort screening data for quarterly and annual data returns.
  • Write and present screening programme reports at local, regional and national level.
  • Participate in audit, education of staff and guideline development.

  • To assist the Antenatal and Newborn Screening Coordinator to provide individualised, specialist and evidence-based advice and screening services to our service users.
  • To assist the Antenatal and Newborn Screening Coordinator to facilitate and deliver training on mandatory study days for maternity staff, supporting in the education of the wider team relating to the antenatal and newborn screening programme.
  • Make accountable decisions based on knowledge and experience in respect of patient care.
  • Assist the Antenatal and Newborn Screening Coordinator by taking an active role in the antenatal education of service users and their relatives in relation to the antenatal and newborn screening programme.
  • To work independently when required, and within the screening and wider multidisciplinary teams.
  • To assist the Antenatal and Newborn Screening Coordinator with accurate data input and collection for measuring outcomes.
  • Act as a role model, sharing effective practice and learning from others, promoting a high standard of safe and effective care which is based upon the best evidence.
  • Contribute to service delivery and innovation, ensuring that the service is delivered in line with local, national and trust standards.
  • Commitment to ongoing service development and quality improvement work.

  • Registered Midwife on the NMC register.
  • ENB 997 or other teaching / mentoring qualification or equivalent experience.
  • Degree in midwifery or equivalent.
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development.
  • Evidence of completion of comprehensive preceptorship programme.

  • Experience of working as a practising midwife in all areas of midwifery practice.
