The MCh/MMed International Training Fellowship (ITF) Scheme has been designed collaboratively by senior clinicians at Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (WWL) and academics at Edge Hill University (EHU). The scheme offers an opportunity for experienced international clinicians, who have already achieved higher postgraduate qualifications, to come to the UK and study for an MCh (in various Surgical specialities) or MMed (in various medical specialities) whilst further enhancing their clinical training by filling vacant non training clinical posts within the NHS.

Main duties of the job
The MCh and MMed programmes offer international clinicians with higher postgraduate qualifications to develop an evidence-based approach to clinical practice. Students study specialist aspects of evidence-based practice in surgery and medicine including the application of advanced knowledge of physiology, anatomy, pathology, microbiology and imaging; also clinical research with a focus on research design, ethics and governance, critical appraisal, writing research proposals and systematic review protocols. As part of this scheme, doctors will be required to work under direct supervision of consultants at their respective NHS Trusts or Institutions participating in the MCh or MMed rotations
Attendance at outpatient clinics
Attendance at ward rounds, operating theatre sessions
Day to day management of in patients under the team's care
Checking pathology and radiology reports ensuring that appropriate action is taken
Informing therapy staff as necessary regarding the treatment of in patients.
Collecting and presenting data for clinical audit meetings.
Signing death certificates and personally notifying deaths to HM Coroner where necessary and after discussion with the Consultant if required

The standard full-time working week is 40 hours per week, your actual hours will be no more than 48 hours per week on average and will be as set out in your job plan. If you are required to participate in an out of hours working pattern you will receive the appropriate pay premia in line with the Locally Employed Doctors Terms and Conditions.

All Wrightington Wigan and Leigh NHS Foundation Trust staff employed within Clinical Environments and has contact with children, vulnerable adults; service users and their families must familiarise themselves, be aware of their responsibilities and adhere to Local Safeguarding Childrens Board, Local Safeguarding Adult Board and WWL Procedures for Safeguarding and Protecting Children which are available on the Trust Policy Library.
