Healthcare Support Worker - Astley Ward

Job summary

We are seeking a Healthcare Support Worker (HCSW) to commence on Astley Ward within in the Division of Medicine working 36 hours per week.

This vacancy is open to all internal and external candidates. NHS Employees should ideally secure their line managers agreement for a secondment arrangement ideally prior to applying as this will be a condition of any offer made.

This vacancy is advertised on a fixed term basis up until 21/4/2027 as it is established to provide cover for an employee secondment.

Whilst this post is advertised on a fixed term basis there is the potential that this may become permanent in the future.

Main duties of the job

Function as a team member of the Multidisciplinary Team by assisting the Registered Nurse in the delivery of effective high quality patient care. All work undertaken by the post holder will be under direct supervision of the Registered Nurse.

  • Assist patients with the provision of washing, dressing, personal care, beverages and/or meals.
  • Assist qualified nursing and medical staff where requested.
  • Communicate with all members of the team to maintain a good service provision.
  • Ensure that all patients are able to meet their hygiene needs, providing a level of assistance appropriate to the individual.
  • Prepare and support the patient appropriately during any activity that is to be undertaken.
  • Alert the registered nurse where you notice any changes in the patients health and well-being or any possible risks.
  • Ensure effective use of material resources/supplies within the ward/unit in consultation with senior staff.
  • Assist with the general cleaning and re-stocking of resources where appropriate as well as cleaning and preparing patients beds.
  • Contribute to own personal development and take an active part in learning opportunities. Work Circumstances & on-call
  • Shifts of 12 hours to include nights and weekends. Rosters are planned and released six weeks in advance.
