Job summary
We are searching for a confident, motivated and autonomous RGN or AHP with a Non Medical Prescribing Qualification, to join our Rheumatology Specialist Nurse Team.
We have an expanding team who work closely with our Rheumatology Consultants and junior medical team and the successful candidate will have access to weekly training which is provided for our junior doctors.
This is predominantly a 9am-5pm Monday to Friday role.
Candidates are required to present original certificates for qualifications at interview stage.
The role will require you to work across all areas in the Trust which includes those that are designated as positive, asymptomatic and negative COVID wards.

Main duties of the job
The Rheumatology Specialist Nurse team has supported the Consultant team and Rheumatology patients at our Trust for decades. This is a fascinating and varied role, providing long term care to patients with chronic illness. The Rheumatology department is based at Wrightington Hospital in the heart of a semi rural environment although we also travel to the Thomas Linacre Centre and Leigh Infirmary to undertake clinics.

- To initiate and follow care plans in co-operation with the Rheumatology consultants, that respond to the immediate and ongoing needs of patients within the hospital and community setting.
- To initiate and manage the effective and safe monitoring of all patients on 2nd line drug therapy under the care of the Rheumatology department, ensuring prompt action with regard to any anomaly.
- Asses and refer patients as appropriate to other nurse specialists/ AHPs/consultants.
- Assess patients and carry out joint examination and intra-muscular/intra-articular injections as patient need requires. To provide prescriptions as required in line with the patients care plan/ consultant protocols.
- Develop and maintain competencies (in self and team) which safeguard practice and effectiveness and contribute to the team in a credible and accountable manner. Be able to act automatously without direct supervision.
- Impart sensitive, condition related information to patients and relatives in a sensitive and appropriate manner.
- Develop a positive role in health education.
- To carry out research and audit projects, both medical and nursing orientated.
- Provide and assist in the education of all disciplines of staff in Rheumatology.
- Involvement in committees, working parties and meetings concerned with ongoing developments in the Rheumatology service.
- Manage own workload autonomously, working as a specialist autonomous practitioner, providing assessment, treatment and information for patients.
- To treat patients holistically by using independent supplementary and extended prescribing as appropriate within own specialist area.
- Develop and maintain specialist Rheumatology knowledge and practice by attending and participating in Continuing Professional Development and influence the development of others.
- Contribute to clinical practice, education and development acting as a resource for the support and guidance of staff to represent corporate and Divisional objectives.
- Identify, maintain and improve upon the quality of patient care through facilitation of best practice models and clinical audit.
