To support the implementation, of the 'Saving Babies Lives Care Bundle Version 3 'Element 4', to improve standards for fetal heart monitoring, interpretation, escalation, and appropriate management of care, reporting to the Fetal Surveillance and Intra-Partum Safety Lead. Working with all teams across Maternity to deliver a programme which facilitates the implementation of clinically based teaching to support birth
Develop staff awareness in recognising pathological factors that could contribute to the misinterpretation of the fetal heart pattern. This will be relevant when using both intelligent intermittent auscultation plotted on a partogram and electronic fetal monitoring using a cardiotocograph (CTG). Expand midwives' competence in undertaking intelligent intermittent fetal heart auscultation when caring for low-risk women and ensure all staff can intelligently auscultate the fetal heart reflective in the documentation using either a pinnard or handheld Doppler sonicaid.
Work with our senior midwifery team in the development of a safety culture, in partnership with the Intrapartum Safety Lead midwife, quality and safety midwife, the education team, and clinical midwifery managers.

Main duties of the job
Ensure that all midwives and obstetricians providing antenatal and intrapartum care undertake fetal monitoring training & competency assessment. Providing enhanced teaching and support to staff who need to repeat the test to achieve and demonstrate the expected levels of knowledge, or who are identified as requiring further support through the risk management.
To cascade out and embed into practice an 'intelligent intermittent auscultation' training package and lead on the use of this.
Lead monthly CTG workshops maintaining an electronic database to evidence attendance.
Identify, lead and implement improvements on learning identified from national reports and quality improvement projects.
Identifying areas of good practice that can be replicated at the Trust.
Represent The Trust for all matters of fetal surveillance matters.
Be visible in all areas, where fetal surveillance may be required. Providing support, training, and feedback to staff to ensure fetal monitoring is of a high-quality standard and well embedded.
Ensure ongoing audits are undertaken to monitor the improvements and subsequently maintain standards.
Attend MDT meeting and give opinion on cases where fetal surveillance issues may require escalation and further in-depth.
Plan and deliver regular fetal heart rate (FHR) monitoring meetings and cascade training and information to all relevant staff. Active involvement with the review of cases involving adverse outcomes.
