Job summary

The Sleep Medicine Department is seeking two forward thinking, enthusiastic individuals to join the team as Clinical Support. This post has been created in line with Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC) plans and will see the post holders work alongside our existing Clinical Support. You will support our multi-disciplinary team as well as completing independent clinics issuing diagnostic equipment and supporting long term Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) users.

Applicants may have the opportunity in the future to complete a Level 2 Sleep Science Apprenticeship.

You will become competent in completing capillary blood gas monitoring, blood pressure measurements, limited home based sleep studies, and supporting the initiation and follow up of treatment.

The role will require you to work across all areas in the Trust which includes those that are designated as positive, asymptomatic and negative COVID wards.

Main duties of the job

The role includes, but is not limited to:

  • issue and maintenance of sleep diagnostics
  • preparation and involvement with the weekly Sleep MDT meeting
  • collaborative working with Medical Electronics for existing CPAP users
  • clinical support for Nurse/Practitioner clinics

You will be responsible for keeping up to date records regarding ongoing patient care on a variety of IT platforms including Microsoft Excel and web-based Telemonitoring platform AirView.

The role is likely to evolve in line with any changes within the Departments way of working within your scope of practice.

  • Ensure all clinical practice within the sleep department complies with the Trust policies and procedure and national guidelines.
  • Maintaining and configuring sleep monitoring equipment and issuing to patients, ensuring return.
  • Cleaning/decontaminating equipment in accordance to the infection control policy
  • Downloading of sleep monitoring equipment, identify and report any signal abnormalities.
  • To book patient appointments in accordance with the sleep service pathway and deal with enquiries from the general public and other disciplines of staff.
  • Conducting consultations, independently carrying out programmes of care/treatment determined. Alter within set parameters and reporting back to senior staff.
  • To Provide direct clinical care to patients and their families, with minimal/no supervision
  • Maintaining / updating the sleep patient data management software
  • Identify, report and take appropriate actions, as per level of competence, for any untoward incident/accident, problem solving and reporting as soon as possible to senior members of the service

Planning and Organisational Duties

  • Participate in fulfilling specific department administrative, clerical and housekeeping duties
  • Understand own limitations and know where to find advice and assistance
  • identify own training needs and limitations and actively participate with training and attend relevant training sessions
  • Participate in department projects, including undertaking audits and quality initiatives pertinent to the role.
