Job summary

This is a unique opportunity to be appointed to Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. We are seeking a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon with a specialist interest in Hand and Wrist Surgery.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be required to work across Wrightington Hospital and Royal Albert Edward Infirmary, including participation in the Trauma on call rota.

About us

The Specialist Service Division is largely autonomous with its own business plan and has regular meetings with the other specialties within the Surgical Division to co-ordinate services. The Division also has a seat on the Clinical Advisory Board where representatives of all specialties meet monthly to discuss clinical policies for the whole Trust.

  • Basic medical degree
  • Full registration with GMC and license to practice
  • Permission to work in the UK
  • FRCS Trauma & Ortho
  • On the GMC specialist register or within six months of being admitted to the register if currently in a training programme within the UK, i.e. within six months of expected CCT date at the date of AAC

Desirable

  • Specialist qualifications (Diploma/MSc/MD/PhD) related to subspecialist service

Experience within Specialty

  • Wide and significant experience in Orthopeadics
  • Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required for gaining a UK CCT in Orthopaedic
  • Valid ATLS certificate

Desirable

  • Experience in dealing with upper limb trauma

Research/Publications

  • Ability to demonstrate an appreciation and understanding of research methodology
  • Evidence of involvement in research and/or publications
