Job summary

An exciting new vacancy has arisen for a Medical Engineering Technician within Medical Electronics Department.

The Medical Electronics Department will be responsible for managing the maintenance and repair of all medical equipment across WWL's services. As this is a brand-new service, the successful applicant will be expected to work with minimum supervision, and demonstrate a very proactive, enthusiastic approach to their work in order to introduce best practise solutions from the outset.

The applicant should possess an HNC in electrical / electronic engineering and have experience of working in the field of electrical / electronic maintenance, preferably in a healthcare environment.

Experience of working with engineering databases would be a distinct advantage.

The role will require the post holder to travel across the Wigan & Leigh area in a works vehicle as part of their normal daily duties. A full, current UK driving license will be required.

This is a permanent post working 37.5 hours per week. A flexible approach will be required, with the occasional requirement to work outside of normal clinic hours.

Main duties of the job

Responsibilities will include acceptance testing of new equipment, minor repairs and planned preventative maintenance. A knowledge of cleaning / decontamination procedures would be an advantage.

The role will offer training & the opportunity to progress throughout the Trusts engineering services.

You will be self-motivated and well-organised, capable of planning and executing the maintenance of equipment used in various levels of clinical areas. This requires good communication and negotiation skills as you will be required to organise access arrangements with equipment users and external suppliers in conjunction with other divisions.

You will also be expected to ensure efficient use of financial resources within the department and any other tasks required for effective operation of the department.

Main duties include:

  • Collect and deliver medical equipment prior to and post decontamination, storage and servicing across the WWL sites.
  • Using the departments vehicle when appropriate. This will involve communicating technical related information to technical / non-technical staff and your own colleagues
  • Disassemble and reassemble medical equipment for decontamination and repair as required using your skills of dexterity and co-ordination with the aid of precision tools and specialised test equipment
  • Clean and decontaminate medical equipment prior to service, repair and storage in accordance with department procedures to ensure that equipment is safe for ones self and other engineering technicians to carry out their duties and to prevent cross infection to patients
