Job summary

We are looking to appoint a qualified Orthodontic Therapist to join our existing team working 24 hours per week. Good communication skill and the ability to work individually or as part of a team are essential.

Main duties of the job

Supporting the Consultant Orthodontist and Manager in improving standards to meet performance targets Providing an extended role in Orthodontics as an advanced practitioner managing patients requiring orthodontic treatment following guidance from Consultant Orthodontist.

Job responsibilities

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Receive the patient, preparing him/her to undergo all aspect of orthodontic treatment
  • Assist the Consultant Orthodontist with all aspect of treatment
  • Be a skilled practitioner in all aspects in all aspects of patient care including the care of children and complex needs within the department
  • Work in accordance with the Trust cross infection control, clinical waste and sharps polic

Key results from the job holder

  • Comply with policies, procedures and guidelines including the Code of Conduct
  • Co-ordinate and communicate effectively with appropriate clinicians, staff, professional bodies and agencies
  • Take part in all aspects of clinical governance within the Trust
  • Responsibilities for sharing knowledge with students and professional staff
  • Support the mandatory training policy in attending life support updates, fire and moving and handling training
  • Compliance with Health and Safety at work policies including risk assessment, and reporting of all incidents
  • Completing of all mandatory training (e-learning) in line with Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh protocols
  • Compliance with the Data Protection Act

Planning and Organisational Duties

  • Contribute to service development in Maxillofacial and Orthodontics
  • Contribute to education within Orthodontic services, acting as a cascade trainer, undertaking clinical supervision of trainees and students
  • Create and maintain a learning environment for self and others promoting the use of e-learning and information technology
  • Contribute to performance management through good delivery of care
  • Effectively contribute to both clinical and management skill through knowledge gained withing the orthodontic speciality
  • Deal sensitively with patient complaints in conjunction with Patient Complaints Advice and Liaison Service following guidance with Trust Policies
  • Worth with National Framework Polices including child protection, vulnerable adults, and the Mental Health Act
