An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Wrightington Wigan and Leigh Teaching Hospitals. This is a busy and varied role, requiring specialist knowledge in the area of fire safety, as well as broad knowledge and understanding of Health and Safety.
To develop and maintain an environment, which will reduce the risk of harm to patients / clients, their relatives / carers and other healthcare personnel, through programmes of risk assessments and inspections in compliance with legislative frameworks, education programmes and awareness raising.
To develop, implement and monitor a cohesive, whole systems Fire Safety Strategy that embraces all legal, ethical and moral responsibilities of the organisation.
Protect the safety and well-being of patients, staff, visitors and the organisation, through the provision of leadership; advice and support to staff at all levels, enabling the delivery of local and National Fire Safety Management initiatives.
To promote the implementation of guidance produced by the Fire and Rescue Service, Local Authority Building Control, Health and Safety Executive, CQC, NHSLA, Insurance parties and other relevant enforcement agencies.
To establish and maintain communications and good working relationships to promote and respond to Fire Safety issues.
In addition to all staff in the department as per the structure chart you will also be required to liaise and work closely with all staff in the Trust and all relevant external statutory bodies.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be required to take a leading role within the Estates Governance and Risk team to deliver a highly effective service to managers and staff, which will enable them to fulfil their fire safety responsibilities. This will include liaising with staff to understand fire safety needs and delivery timetables, providing expert advice in relation to all fire safety matters, ensuring that the Trust operates within the relevant legal and ethical frameworks, and raising fire safety awareness within the Trust, through a developed fire safety training strategy.
The role requires that the postholder provide specialist advice to the Estates Capital Team on the fire safety measures required on new builds / refurbishment of existing properties / estate. Liaison with Building Control Officers / Approved inspectors and relevant Local Fire Authorities is another key part of the role, as is the completion of suitable and sufficient fire risk assessments.
A high standard of organisational skills is required, along with excellent written and verbal communication skills and you will need to be proactive and approachable. You will need to be able to collate organisation wide plans in relation to this area of expertise, and work both independently and as part of a team to achieve the goals and objectives set.
