We have the opportunity for two full time Band 7 IPC Specialist Nurses to join our team at RAEI, Wigan. The successful candidate should have current experience of working in an IPC team.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will provide Infection Prevention and Control advice to the Trust, patients, and all healthcare employees of Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. Working with other members of the Infection Prevention and Control Team (including the Infection Prevention and Control Nurses, the Deputy Director of Infection Prevention and Control and the Infection Prevention and Control Doctor and Administration staff), the post holder will be considered as a Specialist Nurse and will contribute to an effective and efficient service for the prevention, surveillance, and control of infection in the Trust.
The post encompasses a significant high level of nursing education, training, and leadership responsibilities within the Trust.
The post holder will be a key member of the Infection Prevention and Control Team and of the Infection Prevention and Control Group, and as such, will play a major role in the provision of the Infection Prevention and Control Nursing Service within the Trust.
The post holder will be responsible for managing their own clinical workload and be responsible for acting independently in line with the application of Trust Infection Prevention and Control policies and will take primary clinical infection prevention and control responsibility within for Trust Divisions and Services, and will work collaboratively as operational requirements arise.

Responsible for the investigation of outbreaks of hospital infection across the Trust Divisions and Services and introduce control measures as appropriate, liaising with the Bed Management and Operations Team and other Divisional Managers to ensure that activity and capacity is not impaired.
Work within the Quality and Clinical Governance frameworks for the Trust and participate as required with relevant infection prevention and control issues.
Responsible clinically for acting independently and make clinical decisions on behalf of the Lead Nurses Infection Prevention and Control. Be accountable for own actions.

Maintain a high clinical profile within the Trust Divisions and Services, participating in and observing control of infection procedures. Participate in and advise on the development of care plans, that reflect best practice guidelines including, the education of patients, relatives, and the exchange of information to ensure continuity of infection prevention and control practices.
Responsible for developing the Ward Infection Prevention and Control Link Practitioners within the Trust Divisions and Services, to ensure that there is local ownership of infection prevention and control, both clinically and environmentally, to ensure that Healthcare Associated Infections are minimised.
Responsible for analysing clinical data in order to use clinical judgement and knowledge to advise on appropriate infection prevention and control measures/ precautions within the Trust Divisions and Services.
Where appropriate to participate in research projects in response to identified needs. Undertake or lead research and/ or audit into aspects of infection prevention and control to improve practice and patient experience.
Responsible for the clinical implementation of research-based evidence and guidance into divisional Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Policies.
