Job summary

This is a unique opportunity to be appointed to Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. We are seeking a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon with a specialist interest in Hand and Wrist Surgery. The Post would be a Locum consultant position with a potential for conversion to substantive appointment in future.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be required to undertake Fracture Clinics at the Royal Albert Edward Infirmary in Wigan, and to provide elective and trauma services (including surgery) at Wrightington Hospital.

About us

The Specialist Service Division is largely autonomous with its own business plan and has regular meetings with the other specialties within the Division to co-ordinate services. The Division also has a seat on the Clinical Advisory Board where representatives of all specialties meet monthly to discuss clinical policies for the whole Trust.

Qualifications

Essential

  • FRCS Trauma & Ortho
  • On the GMC specialist register or within six months of being admitted to the register if currently in a training programme within the UK, i.e. within six months of expected CCT date at the date of AAC

Desirable

  • Specialist qualifications (Diploma/MSc/ MD / PhD) related to subspecialist interest

Experience

Essential

  • Equivalent two years within orthopaedics dealing with specialist Foot and Ankle surgery
  • Completion of a minimum of 12 months fellowship post in Foot and Ankle surgery
  • Experience in dealing with Foot and Ankle trauma
  • Valid ATLS certificate
  • Wide range of experience in orthopaedic adult & paediatric trauma

Skills

  • Can demonstrate ability to lead and manage people
  • Demonstrates intelligent and analytical approach to problem solving
  • Able to maximise opportunities due to change
  • Proven organisational skills

Desirable

  • Post graduate Management, Leadership or Education qualification
