Midlands Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust (MPFT) is an award-winning, values-driven organisation providing mental health, community, learning disability and social care services across a wide geographical area. With over 10,000 colleagues, we deliver a diverse portfolio of local, regional and national services, including specialist provision in areas such as perinatal care, eating disorders, forensic services, sexual health and healthcare in justice settings. We are proud of our reputation for high-quality, compassionate care, and of our strong track record in partnership working, innovation and continuous improvement.

At MPFT, we are United in our Uniqueness. We are committed to building an inclusive Board that brings a wide range of perspectives, experiences and constructive challenge. Every voice strengthens our decision making and the impact we make for the people and communities we serve.

As we continue to develop and evolve as an organisation, we are now seeking to appoint a Non-Executive Director to join our established and high-performing Board. We are particularly interested in applications from individuals with a strong clinical background, including those who are clinically qualified or who have held senior clinical leadership roles within large, complex and highly regulated environments.

Main duties of the job

The role of a Non-Executive Director

As a Non-Executive Director, you will play a key role in supporting the Board to:

  • ensure strong and effective governance
  • provide robust scrutiny of quality, operational performance and financial sustainability
  • uphold accountability to our members and communities through the Council of Governors
  • ensure the effective stewardship of public resources

You will also contribute to the work of Board committees, supporting effective oversight of key areas including quality, safety and performance. You will bring independence, sound judgement and constructive challenge, helping the Board to balance delivery of high-quality care with long-term sustainability, while remaining focused on our purpose of making life better for the people we serve.

About us

Come and work with us at our award-winning NHS Trust, leading the way for trying new and better ways of working to help improve life for our local communities.

We have around 9,000 staff who provide physical and mental healthcare, support for people with learning disabilities, and adult social care across Staffordshire, Stoke-on-Trent, Shropshire, and Telford & Wrekin. We also run regional and national services, including help for new parents (perinatal care), eating disorders, forensic services, sexual health, and support for people in prison with mental health, drug, or alcohol problems.

We offer great career development for both clinical and non-clinical roles, with ongoing training and support to help you learn and grow.

We are 'United in our Uniqueness' and committed to creating a workplace where everyone feels welcome and can be themselves, no matter their background or identity. We want our staff to feel supported and valued, and we aim to build a team that reflects the communities we serve. Together, we can make sure every voice is heard, and every difference is respected.

Please note, we may be required to close this vacancy early if we receive a high volume of applications
