An opportunity has arisen to join the Redwoods Mental Health Inpatient team as a Band 6 Physiotherapist until January 2027.

The Redwoods Centre offers acute mental health inpatient support for adult and older adults with a range of mental health needs including dementia.

This diverse role will allow the post holder to deliver personalised physiotherapy through group and individual interventions. Falls Prevention, balance rehabilitation, strength and conditioning form the core of our caseload but supporting with MSK conditions, Neurological presentations and non-acute respiratory care are also elements of our practice.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to forge leadership skills through mentorship of our Physio apprentice and involvement with upcoming service improvement projects exploring the delivery a group tai chi program to adults and older adults with severe mental illnesses and dementia.

The post holder will be supported to develop transferable skills in delivering therapeutic tai chi in an acute Inpatient setting. This position is ideal for those who enjoy complex problem solving with an adaptive approach to intervention and communication. The post holder will be joining a team where building respectful and motivational relationships are paramount to meaningful patient outcomes.

Main duties of the job

  • Independently assess and treat a complex caseload of patients with Severe Mental Illness and Dementia, working in line with HCPC standards, professional proficiency, and MPFT Trust Values.
  • Apply advanced clinical reasoning to complete comprehensive assessments, formulate accurate diagnoses, and develop individualised, evidence-based treatment plans.
  • Establish meaningful, patient-centred therapeutic goals and adapt interventions as needed to optimise outcomes.Work collaboratively with patients, families, and MDT colleagues, providing expert functional and clinical advice to support effective care planning.
  • Supervise and mentor junior staff, including AHP Assistants, Therapy Assistant Practitioners, and a Physiotherapy Trainee, in partnership with the Band 7 Physiotherapy Clinical Lead.
  • Act as a clinical educator for undergraduate students, including teaching, assessing, and evaluating competency.
  • Deputise for the Physiotherapy Clinical Lead, supporting day-to-day caseload coordination and team operations.
  • Contribute to service improvement initiatives and evaluation projects across the team.
  • Ensure safe and effective use of equipment and resources in line with departmental SOPs.
  • Allocate and oversee work delegated to junior staff to maintain high standards of care and documentation.
  • Lead and collaborate with MDT colleagues and physiotherapy peers to deliver therapeutic groups aligned with physiotherapy service objectives.
