Job summary

We are looking for a highly motivated and autonomous Specialist Occupational Therapist to join our well established and evolving North Staffordshire Integrated Community Stroke Service (ICSS) giving you the opportunity to help drive developing and implementing high quality stroke rehabilitation care pathways and multidisciplinary training plans.

You will actively contribute to working in partnership with our patients, care partners and building a culture of research and development. Supporting our strong links to our local community an invested interest in improving our stroke rehabilitation service with the overall aim being to improve the health and wellbeing of the population served.

We offer excellent continuing professional development (CPD) opportunities and building robust learning plans utilising the Stroke Specialist Education Framework (SSEF) and aligning to Allied Health Professionals (AHP) pillars of practice. Our service is transformational with the post holder requiring a level of NHS and stroke rehabilitation experience, high emotional intelligence and confidence to support with helping us drive development of our ICSS model.

We are based at the Haywood Hospital with our community service working across a 7 day shift pattern. Due to the nature of this role, you will be required to travel independently and efficiently over a large geographical area and have access to suitable transport.

Main duties of the job

As the Specialist Occupational Therapist, you will be responsible for the management of a complex stroke caseload, which includes specialist assessment and evaluation (within service specification), goal setting and care planning in conjunction with patient and care partner.

As part of this role, you will be expected to:

  • Deliver a range of therapeutic interventions following specific occupational therapy and interdisciplinary assessments including goal planning and evaluation within a biopsychosocial approach to maximise an individual's abilities.
  • Develop effective communication and delegation to team members and wider professionals within service specified processes to meet the needs of the individual.
  • Complete and contribute to robust risk assessments & management plans promoting positive risk taking to improve quality of life and maximise occupational and functional performance/independence
  • Maintain effective service and clinical governance reporting systems including contemporaneous paperwork, safeguarding and incident reporting mechanisms.
  • Support in the provision of formal and informal training of pre/post registration students, staff members, carers and service users.
  • Responsible for participating in quality driven processes, research and service development opportunities.
