The CAMHS Intensive Support Team (Mental Health) in Shropshire is recruiting two Senior Assistant Psychologists on 12 month fixed term contracts. In the role you will work as part of a new multidisciplinary service supporting autistic children and young people experiencing significant distress and at risk of hospital admission.
Working within the THRIVE "Getting More Help" model, you will provide peer support to a small number of young people, their families and key stakeholders, helping to prevent poor health outcomes, reduce hospital admissions, so that people remain in their local communities, getting the right support.
You will work with CYP, families and multi-disciplinary colleagues, including colleagues in other organisations who are providing support to theCYP and their families. You will support and enhance the professional, psychological care of CYP who have either a diagnosis of autism or a working diagnosis of Autism within the service, providing psychological assessment and psychological interventions under the supervision of a qualified Practitioner Psychologist.
Base options include Severnfields in Shrewsbury or Langley School in Telford.

Main duties of the job
- To undertake assessments of personality, beliefs, attitudes, behaviour, emotional function, other relevant psychological characteristics and dimensions and factors relevant to the development, maintenance and understanding of the child and young person (CYP)difficulties based psychological assessments of service users applying psychological tests, including self-report measures, rating scales, direct and indirect structured observations and semi-structured interviews with CYP , family members and others involved in the young person's care
- To assists in the formulation of the CYP and families' difficulties and in the planning and delivery of care plans involving the psychological treatment and/or management of the CYP problems in community and inpatient / residential settings
- To deliver therapeutic interventions developed or guided by the qualified psychologist or otherwise defined by protocol, for individual CYP and their families, including, for example, planned programmes of CBT or other appropriate psychological interventions.
- To assist in the planning, development, coordination and delivery of therapeutic groups, including for example group approaches to the management of anxiety, stress, psycho-educational groups for carers and other protocol-based group interventions. Acts as co-therapist with qualified psychologist, other Assistant Psychologist or other designated clinician and as appropriate runs group in accordance with agreed protocol.
