Job summary

Permanent band 7 ward Manager based on Newport Intensive Care Ward in the Hatherton medium Secure unit in Stafford. If you want to have the opportunity to influence service development and care to medium secure mental illness patients in our intensive care ward through the delivery of evidence-based practise, then we want you to join our well-established team.As Ward Manager you will be responsible for the daily operational management and provide clinical support and supervision to the ward in collaboration with an experienced multi professional team.

You will need to:o Be enthusiastic and self-motivatedo Have clinical experience working in challenging environmentso Experience of managing a team preferably within a secure or ICU in-patient setting

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be responsible for: o Ensuring the effective management of a ward, with day-to-day responsibility of managing the shift, and bed management.o Delivery of a high standard of patient care daily and providing clinical and managerial leadership along with teaching to nursing and support staff.o Assessment of care needs and the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care for patients who suffer from severe mental illness.

The main duties include:o Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team and providing clinical leadership.o Being a clinical role model to the team.o Providing quality evidence-based nursing advice, support and care for patients with mental health needs and their carers within a multidisciplinary setting.

The postholder will carry overall continuing responsibility for the management and leadership of the ward including administration and the overall co-ordination, assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care and the setting and auditing of standards of care.

The post holder will be required to contribute to taking part in the hospital senior site manager duties which spans a 24hr period.

The post holder will provide strong professional leadership and will also be required to develop both care and staff over the medium and longer term overseeing a robust continuous improvement programme.
