We are recruiting for a full time OT Assistant Practitioner in our Adult Autism Assessment Service, across Shropshire Telford & Wrekin.You will be working in the Adult Autism Assessment Service, across Shropshire Telford & Wrekin, dependent on skill and service need. You will deliver a high-quality clinical service to patients and their families.

Delivering occupational therapy interventions, in accordance with an agreed care plan, to an identified group of individuals who are on a waiting list for an adult autism assessment under the guidance of a qualified Occupational Therapist.

Main duties of the job

o To carry a designated caseload, which remains the responsibility of the registered Occupational Therapist, often working without direct supervision in a variety of community settings or remote consultations. o To provide occupational therapy support to service users who may have a range of neurodevelopmental conditions. o To engage service users and their carers, in co-produced/planned therapy programmes and encourage them in a compassionate manner, towards achieving their identified goals and to promote independence and well-being through a client centred approach. o To provide the best possible experience for service users and carers. o To show commitment to and participate in quality improvement activities. o To always promote a positive image of people with possible neurodevelopmental conditions, mental health conditions and learning disabilities.o To always promote a positive image of the occupational therapy service/neighbourhood and the wider Trust.

Clinical Responsibilities, Patient Contact 1. Carries own case load which remains the responsibility of the registered Occupational Therapist. Service users may demonstrate behaviours that challenge or have difficult family situations of relevance. 2. Carries out initial assessments as part of overall service and occupational assessment (e.g. observations, questionnaires, physiological measurements etc.) with input from the service user, carer, other healthcare professionals as appropriate and feeds back findings to the registered Occupational Therapist. 3. Assesses and manages risk effectively in clinical and community settings including remote consultations. 4. Develops and implements session plans for own service users, individually or in groups, within a treatment programme prescribed by a registered Occupational Therapist. 5. Monitors service user progress making adjustments to activities (within established parameters) and feeding back to the registered therapist in a timely and appropriate manner. 6. Uses technical and creative skills to engage service users in therapeutic activities and encourages service users/carers to support them in achieving their identified goals. 7. Provides information and practical advice, within scope of own competency to service users and carers and other healthcare staff involved in service users care. 8. Participates in health promotion activities. 9. Provides information and updates at clinical meetings on service user progress and participates in the clinical decision-making process as part of the multidisciplinary team. 10. Responsible for recognising the signs of service user harm, abuse or neglect, including poor clinical practice, identifying issues regarding the safeguarding of children who may be at risk and reporting all such concerns in accordance with Trust Safeguarding procedures. 11. Demonstrates safe moving and handling of service users, using equipment as required. 12. Demonstrates safe physical interventions in the management of violence and aggression as required. 13. Identify and select, with the client, appropriate intervention options which balance the interaction of risk, safety, user choice and independence, and report back to registered Occupational Therapist.14. To co-work with registered therapist for patients who have complex needs and require more than one person to treat. Administrative Responsibilities 15. Undertakes administrative tasks in relation to own work and as requested e.g. taking telephone messages, preparing case note files, collating and inputting data, photocopying, filing, completing assignments. 16. Uses Microsoft Office applications on a daily basis.Responsibility for Information & Information Systems 17. Responsible for maintaining accurate and comprehensive service user records using approved clinical recording systems in accordance with the Trust and professional record keeping standards.18. Writes letters and reports on service users progress for distribution to other health care professionals following approval by a registered Occupational Therapist. 19. Records information required for statistical purposes in an accurate and timely manner.20.
