Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Midlands Metabolic Bone Centre, a well-established and highly regarded service delivering expert care across bone densitometry, metabolic bone medicine and fracture prevention.
Our centre incorporates:
- A busy Bone Densitometry (DXA) Scanning Service
- Medical Metabolic Bone Clinics
- Nurse/AHP-Led Osteoporosis Clinics
- A Fracture Liaison Service (FLS)
The Bone Densitometry Service performs over 5,000 scans each year, using low-dose X-ray technology to diagnose osteoporosis and assess fracture risk, making a real difference to patients' long-term health and quality of life. We provide a comprehensive range of DXA investigations for Trust specialties and GPs, contribute to the Fracture Liaison Service, and actively support research and service development.
Based at Bradwell Hospital and Haywood Hospital the service is equipped with three state-of-the-art Hologic Horizon A bone densitometers and supports patients across Stoke-on-Trent and North Staffordshire. You will join a friendly, experienced multidisciplinary team including a Advanced Clinical Practitioner, Clinical Nurse Specialists, Senior Staff Nurses, Bone Densitometry Technicians and dedicated administrative support.
Main duties of the job
We are looking for a motivated, enthusiastic and forward-thinking Radiographer/Registered Nurse/Bone Density Technician to join our dynamic team. This role may be particularly attractive to a registered nurse or radiographer seeking a new opportunity or career direction, as well as applicants who already hold, or wish to work towards, Certification in Bone Density Scanning through the National Training Scheme for Bone Densitometry.
Experience in DXA reporting would be welcomed; however, this is not essential, as full training and supervision will be provided. The successful candidate will be expected to undertake a Postgraduate Certificate (PGCert) in DXA Reporting, fully supported by the service as part of their professional development.
You will:
- Perform bone density scans and contribute to high-quality DXA reporting
- Develop specialist technical and clinical skills
- Play a key role in improving patient outcomes
- Be supported through a structured programme of internal and external training, including the PGCert in DXA Reporting, as well as courses, webinars and conferences
