An exciting, new opportunity has arisen for a proactive and driven candidate to study for a physiotherapy degree alongside working as a band 4 Physiotherapy Assistant Practitioner at the Redwoods Centre in Shropshire.
The successful candidate will be supported to apply for an approved degree qualification and released during the week to attend university and learning placements through its duration. Outside of university the post holder will work with the physiotherapy team delivering assessment and interventions to the 3 acute Inpatient mental health and 2 older adult wards. This work will include 1 to 1 as well as group delivery.
Patients accessing mental health services at the Redwoods are increasingly presenting with complex physical health needs which require clinical reasoning from across the full spectrum of physiotherapy be that MSK, orthopaedics, neurology, respiratory or balance, strength and gait support. Excellent communication and creativity is required to support patients to access their physiotherapy in a trauma informed, dementia aware and holistic approach.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will need to be extremely hard working and committed to balance the requirements of intense study and work commitments. It is essential candidates have a robust understanding of physiotherapy and have worked alongside Physiotherapists previously.
Duties will include:
- Successful application to an approved university physiotherapy degree
- Successful completion of a Physiotherapy degree meeting all study obligations including assignments, exams and placements (please note 80% attendance at university and place of work is an essential requirement to passing the course).
- Successful application for HCPC registration following degree completion.
- Delivering physiotherapy assessments and interventions through a variety of mediums to meet patient needs across the wards inline with a band 4 Physiotherapy Assistant Practitioner competency framework.
- Utilise clinical reasoning and exercise principles to progress and regress treatments in line with scope of practice.
- To work as part of a team following direction from registered Physiotherapists as well as delegating to band 3 AHP Assistants as appropriate.
- To engage in clinical supervision and Trust appraisal processes.

DIPLOMA Course - (60 credits of which a minimum of 45 must be at Level 3 with the
remainder at Level 2 and a minimum of merit grades in all modules) OR Pass NVQ level III in Allied Health Profession Support: Physiotherapy; plus Grade B in GCE
