Job summary
We are offering an exciting opportunity to join our Mental Health Acute Inpatient Ward as a Ward Manager based at Brocton House, St George's Hospital in Stafford.

As ward manager you will provide strong leadership and operational management support to our acute inpatient ward. Brocton house is a 20 bedded inpatient ward for working age adults with acute mental health problems. Within the ward we also provide a 6 bedded suite for serving military personal and work closely with the Ministry of Defence (MOD) to ensure high quality care is delivered.
You will work alongside the collective leadership team to ensure the delivery of high-quality care to our patients. You will provide effective operational management for the ward and demonstrate strong clinical leadership to support role modelling and the development of the wider nursing team.
You will be supported in this role through managerial and clinical supervision and participate in appraisal and performance development conversations. Training and development needs will also be identified, and you will be supported to achieve competencies outlined within the role.
Working hours are Monday to Friday 9am-5pm typically with some flexibility expected to meet the needs of the service.
Main duties of the job
Working within a multidisciplinary team alongside the service lead, matron, and clinical colleagues you will contribute to the on-going quality improvements of the ward and service.
Your key responsibilities will to be a visible lead within the ward environments promoting discussion around challenges faced and enabling a culture of problem solving. You will also promote collaborative working across the multidisciplinary teams and community services to promote positive patient journey.
As part of this role, you will:
- Ensure the effective day to day management and organisation of the ward including staffing levels, resources and compliance with policies and procedures
- Facilitate education and training for ward staff to promote development and inclusiveness essential for a positive working culture
- Oversee the delivery of care ensuring this is evidence based and therapeutic
- Monitor clinical standards, risk management, safeguarding, incident management and adhering to CQC and trust requirements
- Work and contribute to the senior collective leadership team and provide 24-hour managerial responsibility for the ward
