We are excited to offer a fantastic opportunity to join our Integrated Community Occupational Therapy Team as an Occupational Therapy Assistant Practitioner.

This exciting role will support our Adult Social Care OT service by triaging and processing incoming referrals to ensure they meet the criteria and are suitable for our service. There will be an element of focussed initial assessment over the phone and provision of basic equipment where appropriate.

Applicants would benefit from previous Adult Social Care or Community Occupational Therapy experience.

Our Adult Social Care OT team support people with long term physical disabilities and social care needs across Staffordshire. Following the initial assessment, we visit people within their own home environment, provide equipment and minor adaptations to make their home environment accessible and maintain their independence.

The role is 37.5 hours per week; we may be able to offer some flexibility in line with the requirements of the service. You may be required to travel independently and efficiently over a large geographical area to meet the requirements of the role.

Main duties of the job

As an OT Assistant Practitioner under the supervision of an Occupational Therapist you will be expected to work on your own and as part of a team focusing on excellent quality patient care, completing initial assessments over the phone and establishing the clinical needs of the patient.

As part of this role, you will be expected to:

  • Demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills, show initiative and team spirit as well as be committed to patient care.
  • Be flexible and able to work in various locations in Staffordshire, as the service requires.
  • Understand assessment and rehabilitation appropriate to the role.
  • Have good IT skills, knowledge and understanding of criteria for equipment provision.

We are looking for enthusiastic individuals with:

  • Keen interest & / or experience of working in rehabilitation services and can demonstrate an understanding of therapy and service needs.
  • Ability to assess new service user referrals and care/support needs.
  • Proactive in developing sound clinical skills in the assessment and management of patients in the rehabilitation & / or community environmentappropriate to the role.
  • To deliver a high standard of intervention, whilst managing the demands of unplanned aspects of the role.
  • Experience of when to escalate to a qualified team member.
