Job summary

We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic, passionate, and motivated Social Worker to join our Perinatal Mental Health Team. This will be over South Staffordshire. We are a specialist service that strives to deliver excellent standards of care to expectant and new mothers with severe and complex mental health problems.

This is an opportunity to be part of the perinatal service and to help shape the future of perinatal mental health care in Staffordshire. You will be joining a friendly and supportive multidisciplinary team with extensive training opportunities along with regular supervision, reflective practice, and opportunity for career progression.

As a member of the team, you would provide the management of a defined caseload including assessments, monitoring, implementation, and evaluation of appropriate interventions to people with mental health needs and their carers. To demonstrate active clinical and managerial leadership skills within the team, providing education and supervision to junior staff members and other professionals as well as, contribution to multidisciplinary team discussions. Liaison with professional and voluntary agencies to provide expertise advice. The promotion of 'Excellence in Social Work' across the Trust in collaboration with the Social Care Professional Lead.

The team works closely with the Brockington Parent and Baby Unit and the Shropshire Community Perinatal Mental Health Team.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will deliver a high quality, comprehensive mental health service for mothers with serious and enduring mental health difficulties. The role involves managing a defined caseload and acting as a key member of the multi-disciplinary team. The post holder will provide assessment, psychosocial, evidence-based interventions using a collaborative approach and will be skilled at risk assessment and management. The emphasis of their work will focus on facilitating and supporting early assessment and identification of need. The postholder will demonstrate and be responsible for the safe application of relevant, up-to-date legislation including the Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act and Safeguarding. The post holder will complement the multi-disciplinary working of the team, providing supervision for other team members, as agreed with the Operational Manager. The post holder will participate in team and service development and evaluation. Liaison, advice and consultation with a wide range of agencies is central to the role.
