Job summary

Are you passionate about making a meaningful difference in the lives of children and young people with autism? We are looking for a compassionate and skilled Senior Support Worker to join our dynamic and supportive team within MPFT's new CYP Enhanced Autism Support and Empowerment Team (EASE).

In this vital role, you will work directly with children and young people (CYP) -- and where appropriate, their families or carers -- who are experiencing a mental health crisis and/or require intensive autism-specific support. You will be supporting those with a formal diagnosis of autism, those awaiting assessment, or those exhibiting autistic traits.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct, hands-on support and therapeutic interventions (as agreed and under supervision) to CYP and their families in crisis or requiring intensive input.
  • Deliver practical assistance and support problem-solving in the home or community setting.
  • Support and guide CYP and families to implement and review risk management plans.
  • Promote and facilitate engagement with appropriate services, working in collaboration with families, professionals, and wider support networks.
  • Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team, under the supervision of a senior clinician or team member, to deliver consistent and effective care.

Main duties of the job

To work with children and young people (CYP) and where appropriate and necessary their families or care providers who present in Mental Health Crisis and/or need intensive 'home-based' support who are either diagnosed with Autism, pending diagnostic assessment, or exhibiting traits indicative of Autism. To provide ongoing support, therapeutic interventions when agreed, practical assistance and problem resolution under the supervision of a senior team member. To support with supervising young people and families to implement and review risk planning and engage in relevant support services.

  • Foundation degree in relevant subject or Diploma/NVQ 3 in Health and Social Care or accredited prior learning with competency based evidence supplemented by short courses.

Desirable

  • Training in working with children with severe learning disabilities and/or challenging behaviour, and/or other behavioural work

Experience

  • oSignificant experience of working with children with Mental Health Needs and Autism as a member of a multi-disciplinary community team Experience of working within a multi-agency framework
  • oExperience of employing evidenced based interventions with children
