Job summary

The post is a community consultant post in Old Age Psychiatry to join the Older Adult CMHT, a clinical pathway providing comprehensive community mental health services to the Staffordshire East localities. The role also involves providing clinical leadership to the team as part of a collective leadership structure and providing support and supervision to Specialty Doctor.The Consultant line manages the Speciality Doctor but this is supported by the close working relationships between the Pathway manager and the Consultant Psychiatrist. Opportunities are available in the Trust to participate in postgraduate and undergraduate education for Junior Doctors and medical students from Keele Medical School.

South Staffordshire has an older adult population of approximately 147,000 with the Older Adult population for this post being approximately 29,000 and is a predominately rural area incorporating two main towns, Stafford and Stone, including the villages of Eccleshall, Gnosall & Penkridge. The Consultant will hold a caseload of approximately 50 patients of which the majority of these will be patients they joint work with and whom will have key workers from within the Team itself. It is estimated that the post holder will complete 5 new assessments and 5 follow-up appointments per week with the flexibility to adjust appointment types in line with service need.

This post is based on a 10PA job plan. Clinical leadership skills are essential.

Main duties of the job

• Toensure,inconjunctionwiththemultidisciplinaryteam,regulareffectivereviewofthe care of patients in the clinical pathway - via individual assessments and follow up appointments, MDT meetings.

• To be the Responsible Clinician for service users in the pathway who are subject to Community Treatment Order (CTO) where applicable

• Toprovideevidence-basedcare

• Toberecoveryfocused

• Toprovidecross-cover(emergencyandprospective)forotherConsultantPsychiatrist colleagues by mutual agreement

• Tocommunicatewithallkeypartnersinanappropriateandtimelywayincluding General Practitioners, service users and carers.

• To work withintherequirements of service contracts agreedwithour Commissioners, including compliance with nationally agreed quality standards

• TofullyutiliseTrustITsystemsasappropriatetoenablefulfilmentofclinicalduties

• You will take part in Mental Health Assessments and out of hours duties; on call work is remunerated at 3% as well as 0.25 APAs.
