Job summary
Providing a primary care mental health service, to those adults in Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin (STW). The post-holder will work as a member of a locality team within the (STW) Psychological Therapies Service, providing effective evidence-based therapies.
The post holder will be part of an NHS Talking Therapies (IAPT) service and will provide high intensity interventions using IAPT approved psychotherapeutic modalities. These may include Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Person-Centred Experiential Counselling for Depression (PCE-CfD), Interpersonal Therapy (IPT), Dynamic Interpersonal Therapy (DIT), Couples Therapy for Depression (CTfD), and Behavioural Couples Therapy (BCT) as recommended by NICE. The post holder will work with clients who have a range of difficulties including depression and anxiety disorders for which the IAPT modality is demonstrated to be clinically effective.
The service offers a stepped care model to a range of mental health issues using evidenced based, NICE approved approaches. The post-holder will work within the IAPT service providing high intensity interventions, providing a high intensity service to clients with a range of complex problems. The post holder will work with people with different cultural backgrounds and ages, using interpreters when necessary and should be committed to equal opportunities and equality of access to treatment.
Main duties of the job

- To maintain an individual caseload, working independently and using own initiative. To be accountable for the direct delivery of clinical work where there is a frequent requirement for intense concentration and frequent exposure to highly charged emotional circumstance.
- Undertake client-centred interviews which identify areas where the person wishes to see change and or recovery and make an accurate assessment of risk to self and others.
- To use a recognised theoretical framework and specialist knowledge to formulate individual programmes of care.
- Formulate, implement, and evaluate therapy programmes for clients.
- Educate and involve family members and others in treatment as necessary.
- Attend multi-disciplinary meetings relating to referrals or clients in treatment, where appropriate.
- Complete all requirements relating to data collection within the service.
- Keep coherent records of all clinical activity in line with service protocols.
- Work closely with other members of the team ensuring appropriate step-up and step-down arrangements are in place to maintain a stepped care approach.
- Assess and integrate issues surrounding work and employment into the overall therapy process

- Postgraduate Diploma in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (NHS Talking Therapies) OR Postgraduate Diploma in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (Level 2 BABCP postgraduate diploma course) AND Significant experience working as a psychological therapist and demonstrating the competences as required. AND Accreditation with a recognised professional body (BABCP) or working towards first audit accreditation with an agreement to achieve this within 1 year of employment. OR Equivalent: e.g. A recorded/registered qualification in clinical or counselling psychology/ a recorded/registered qualification in one of the following - nursing, social work, occupational therapy, arts therapy or a psychological therapy AND further post graduate qualification / training in an approved IAPT psychotherapeutic modality, which meets IAPT practitioner competencies AND Significant experience working as a psychological therapist and demonstrating the competences as required.
