The trust is looking for forward thinking, creative, dynamic and enthusiastic nurses or midwives that are passionate about Health Visiting or School Nursing.
We have severalfully funded places at Birmingham City University (BCU) for Specialist Community Public Health Nursing (Health Visiting or School Nursing), which will be at Master's level. There will be a balance of theory and practice learning opportunities.
Successful applicants will be employed as a mid point band 5; under an MPFT fixed term contract for the duration of the course which will run from February 2026 until February 2027.
MPFT will endeavour to recruit SCPHN students into permanent posts within Staffordshire and Stoke on Trent on the successful completion of the course. Qualified Health Visitors and School Nurses are appointed as Band 6.

The interview will be conducted in two parts: one part being a formal interview and the other being a panel discussion. These will both take place on the same day.
Main duties of the job
Working as part of the 0-19 Health Visiting and School Nursing Service, you will support the delivery of the Healthy Child Programme in accordance with national and local strategy/guidance. This includes the provision of conducting universal mandated contacts and packages of care in line with evidence-based practice.
You will collaborate with partner agencies to identify and safeguard vulnerable children, contributing to the formulation of care plans in alignment with local policies and professional standards. As a SCPHN in Health Visiting or School Nursing, you will contribute to the completion of agreed outcomes for your delegated Child Protection cases in agreement with the multi-agency care plan and have regular communication with other agencies.
Throughout the course and placements, you will develop and grow confidence in your leadership abilities and skills, becoming a competent public health practitioner. You will have a willingness to engage with digital technologies, developing your skills and competencies in this area.
On completion of the course, MPFT offer the opportunity for qualified Health Visitors and Schools Nurses to complete a Transfer of Fields course providing the competencies and knowledge to further extend your skills and knowledge, enabling Specialist Practitioners to support children throughout their journey from childhood into young adulthood.
