Midlands Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust (MPFT) has an exciting opportunity for 2 Assistant Psychologists to support the Talking Therapies & Complex Trauma Pathway within 2 of our Integrated Mental Health teams based in Southwest Staffordshire:

1 x IMHT Seisdon Team - based at the South Staffs Council in Codsall

1 x IMHT Cannock Team - based at Park house in Cannock

We are looking for enthusiastic and diligent Assistant Psychologists to help support the complex trauma pathway. This is a pilot pathway designed for service users who have recently been stepped up from Talking Therapies services into the Complex Trauma Pathway, who have experienced multiple traumatic life experiences. The Complex Trauma Pathway is at the interface between Primary and Secondary Care (Integrated Mental Health Team).

IMHTs are multidisciplinary teams following a recovery model that is informed by both psychological formulation and medical diagnosis. The Psychological workforce play an essential role in facilitating the development of psychological practice through the provision of training, supervision and consultation as well as offering a wide range of psychological approaches.

Main duties of the job

  • Providing psychological assessment and psychological interventions, individual and group based, under the supervision of a Clinical Psychologist.
  • Working independently according to a plan agreed with the Clinical/Counselling Psychologist or CBT trained professional and within the overall framework of the service's policies and procedures.
  • To work collaboratively with all pathway colleagues.
  • To assist in clinically related administration, conduct of audits, collection of statistics, and development of audit and/or research projects, teaching and project work.
  • To assist in the facilitation, administration and evaluation of workshops.

This post involves working closely with a Cognitive Behavioural Therapist to address the psychological needs of this service user group through a range of 1:1 and group interventions, including a Grounding Emotions Programme, which aims to teach service users techniques to manage trauma symptoms. The post also involves supporting with evaluating the impact of the pathway.

The role is varied and provides opportunity to build upon clinical skills, utilise service evaluation and research skills and develop multidisciplinary team working skills; therefore, good time keeping skills and being able to manage multiple, competing demands are essential to the role. This post would provide an ideal basis for individuals wishing to pursue Doctoral training in Clinical or Counselling Psychology.

The successful candidate will be well supported with supervision from the Registered Psychologists in the Neighbourhood and there will be opportunity for networking with other Assistant Psychologists, Trainee Clinical Psychologists and other mental health professionals.

The assistant psychologist will join a diverse and supportive group of psychological practitioners, within a service committed to ongoing professional development for staff. The assistant psychologist would be offered weekly individual supervision and weekly peer group supervision.
