Job summary

We are seeking a passionate and driven assistant psychologist eager to grow both professionally and personally as part of our dynamic team, amidst an exciting phase of change and service development.

Join our compassionate and collaborative Primary Care Network Psychology Team in Telford & Wrekin, where we take pride in fostering a supportive, innovative, and nurturing team culture. We are dedicated to encouraging creativity and continuous improvement as we expand and enhance our services.

The successful applicant will join the newly established Primary Care Network Psychology Team, contributing to the design, development, delivery and evaluation of group interventions tailored to meet the needs of the Telford & Wrekin community.

The ideal candidate will be a collaborative team player with excellent time management and organisational skills.

Our group interventions service supports clients with severe and enduring mental health issues who do not meet the criteria for IAPT or Adult Community Mental Health Teams. While we primarily offer group interventions, one-to-one interventions are available in specific circumstances. We work closely with other mental health teams and services.

You will benefit from the strong psychological support network within the Shropshire, Telford, and Wrekin Care Group, including a large Assistant Psychologists team, and opportunities to shadow and work with experienced psychologists.

Main duties of the job

The primary aim of this role is to support and enhance psychological care by assisting qualified practitioners in developing, delivering and evaluating psychological interventions that align with Trust and Directorate objectives, national policies and strategic guidelines, commissioner requirements, and the needs and expectations of service users and carers.

Key responsibilities include developing and delivering a group program for PCN Aligned Psychology, while supporting the delivery of high-quality psychological care under the supervision of a qualified Clinical or Counselling Psychologist.

You will support colleagues with psychological assessments and interventions. There will be opportunities to work independently within a plan agreed upon with the supervising Psychologist, and adhering to the service's policies and procedures.

You will engage with staff within primary and secondary care mental health services and VCSE organisations.

Additionally, you will assist with clinically related administrative tasks, audits, statistical collection, and the development of audit, research projects, or project-based initiatives.

About us

By joining Team MPFT, you will be helping your communities and in return for this, we will support you by;

  • Supporting your career development and progression
  • Excellent NHS Pension scheme
  • Generous maternity, paternity and adoption leave
  • Options for flexible working
  • Up to 27 days annual leave (increasing with service up to 33 days) and the opportunity to purchase additional leave
  • Extensive Health and Wellbeing support and resources
  • If you work in our community teams, we pay for your time travelling between patients
  • Lease car if you complete more than 500 business miles per annum, fully insured and maintained (including tyres), mileage paid at lease car rate
  • Salary sacrifice car - fully insured and maintained (including tyres), your gross pay is reduced by the cost of the vehicle before tax, NI and pension deductions are calculated, mileage paid at business rates
  • Salary sacrifice bikes up to £2k
  • Free car parking at all trust sites
  • Free flu vaccinations every year
  • Citizens Advice support linked with a Hardship Fund for one off additional support up to £250 (if the criteria is met)

And more. We are proud to be a diverse and inclusive organisation and there is a choice of staff networks that help you meet like-minded people.

Please note, we may be required to close this vacancy early if we receive a high volume of applications
