Job summary

Do the have the skills and passion for working with children and young people with a Learning Disability (LD)? BeeU Children and Young People's Mental Health Service is looking for an LD Nurse to work in our supportive and friendly team LD team. You will be working independently with young people and their families within agreed guidelines, completing assessments (including risk management) and developing evidence-based intervention plans to facilitate positive outcomes in relation to referred behavioural and/or mental health needs.

The post holder will also be required to offer specialist knowledge and skills on a range of behavioural and mental health issues relating to children and young people with an LD and offer liaison, consultation and learning as appropriate.

It is an exciting time to come and work in Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin's Children, Young People and Families Services. We have received additional investment to improve the support available. As a result, we are pleased to be able to advertise a number of new roles both substantive and fixed-term posts. We can welcome clinicians who want to work in Children's Mental Health Services. Where people are interested in applying but would need to relocate we can support with associated incentives. Where people are interested and passionate about working with children but have identified additional training, we may be able to train staff to develop the appropriate skills.

Main duties of the job

  • Take responsibility for the management of a complex caseload, which includes: specialist assessment; care planning in collaboration with young people, their families and carers; evaluation of individual treatment plans.
  • Work as part of the BeeU LD multi-disciplinary team assessing the health and emotional wellbeing needs of children and young people with learning disabilities and responding appropriately.
  • Complete specialist nursing assessment, development, implementation and evaluation of interventions to promote the health and wellbeing of children, young people and families affected by learning disabilities and/or mental health needs.
  • Positively represent the needs and rights of children and young people with learning disabilities, promoting equality and access to NHS and any other service.
