We have an exciting opportunity for two assistant psychologists to join our neurodiversity team.

It is an exciting time to come and work in Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin's Children, Young People and Families Services. We have received additional investment to improve the support available. As a result, we are pleased to be able to advertise a number of new roles both substantive and fixed-term posts. We can welcome clinicians who want to work in Children's Mental Health Services. Where people are interested and passionate about working with children but have identified additional training, we may be able to train staff to develop the appropriate skills.

Our Neurodiversity team provides diagnostic assessments and support to children with autism and /or attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. The role of the assistant psychologist is to work under the supervision of the assistant psychologist, to assist in conducting assessments, providing support to children and their families whilst they wait or post diagnostically and to help develop appropriate psychological interventions.

Main duties of the job

  • Working alongside multidisciplinary colleagues in the BeeU Neurodiversity team under the supervision of a Clinical Psychologist to deliver a clinical service to children and young people with Neurodiversity, and their families.
  • Providing input into assessments
  • Carrying out agreed interventions with the aim of improving a child or young person's quality of life, ability to access their community and engage in the things they enjoy.
  • Providing regular contact with families waiting to be seen by the Neurodiversity team, and that the service are aware of and monitoring any risks appropriately.
  • Provide support to qualified psychologist in delivering assessments and psychological support to the young people and their families awaiting assessment or requiring support within the neurodiversity services.
  • Supporting with additional clinical administration, for example, producing materials for use by families or young people.
