We are offering a unique opportunity to join our Trust as a NMC Registered Band 6 Specialist Nurse within our Asylum Seeker and Refugee Service.
In this exciting role you can make a real positive impact by supporting newly relocated Asylum Seekers and Refugees by offering Physical Health Screening, specifically Tuberculosis, and signposting where appropriate, to Primary Care Services. Patients Include Families and Children, as well as adults.
This opportunity would be suited to someone with a Health Visiting background, interested in supporting displaced peoples where English is not the primary language.
This role is highly rewarding and includes working in partnership with local Charities and Groups for people seeking asylum and refugees, and will include attending these groups.
The role is for 30 hours per week. We may be able to offer some consideration to flexible working and can be discussed during the interview process.
Main duties of the job
As a specialist practitioner in this role you will focus on Asylum Seeker and Refugee Health and Tuberculosis (TB) for adults and children, hence the position being of interest to Health Visiting.
As well as being caring and empathetic in this role, you will be expected to be:
- Skilled in the provision of health assessment and treatment; including aspects of mental and physical health.
- A skilled practitioner in the assessment of complex/specialist care/support needs who can undertake healthcare screening of asylum seeker and refugee population to include TB screening and sexual health screening. This may include identifying any mental health needs referring on to the Specialist Mental Health Nurse/ Mental Health Practitioner within the team, as required.
- A practitioner who can provide a culturally sensitive service to meet the health needs of the Asylum Seeker and Refugee community.
- Have ability to manage time and caseload effectively.
- Hold excellent communication and interpersonal skills

- Physical Assessment module
- Post qualification courses in areas applicable to Asylum Seeker and Refugee Health e.g. Communicable Health (including TB), Sexual Health etc.
- Attendance at relevant community groups
- Up to date field work/pre-registration student
Desirable
- Additional professional qualifications e.g., nurse practitioner
- Non-medical prescribing
- Modules at masters level in relevant area that will support the delivery of the service
- Modules at Masters level or equivalent clinical courses within area of clinical expertise
