In this role you will:
- Join our Senior Social Work leadership team within Adult Mental Health.
- The post holder will operate in a AMHP role and will also provide effective day to day governance and practice support to AMHP's undertaking their statutory duties under the Mental Health Act 1983 (2007).
- Lead and support our Social Workers and AMHPs within Adult Mental health with a focus on supporting the Quality and Performance of the Adult Mental Health North Service.
- To participate in the effective delivery of Approved Mental Health Professional Services across South Staffordshire
- The post holder will be required to implement and monitor specialist and complex areas of local social care governance on behalf of the Mental Health Division. The AMHP/SCAMHP will take the professional lead in ensuring that the AMHP Pathway and relevant elements of the Social Care Pathway for Adults and Carers is deployed.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will be part of the Adult Social Work environment including community and hospital settings.
This is a dynamic post that requires the post holder to work closely with uni/multi-disciplinary teams/agencies in addressing a range of care/support issues, preventing unnecessary hospital admissions, promoting independence and improving the health and wellbeing of the population served.
The service aims to support people to maintain choice and control over the care and support they need to live as independently as possible.
This post will lead and promote excellent Social Work practice including ongoing case work and ensure that all assessments support plans and reviews are carried out to a high standard and are in line with personalisation principles.
You will be a registered social worker, currently registered with Social Work England, with significant experience of working with service users with complex mental health needs from a range of community mental health services. You will also need the enthusiasm, confidence, and authority to inspire others. You will also be a practicing AMHP (Adult Mental Health Professional) and will provide an ongoing regular commitment to the Staffordshire AMHP rota.
You will be an enthusiastic, proactive and innovative individual with previous leadership experience who possesses excellent communication and organisational skills and has a good working knowledge of the Care Act, Mental Capacity Act and the Mental Health Act.

The AMHP/SCAMHP will also have a key role to play in the day to day AMHP rota management and deployment of AMHPs, as well as allocating planned work including S117 reviews, routine periodic reviews etc. during periods of low assessment request/activity.
You will ensure full consideration of legal frameworks are explored; ensure proportionality of interventions are maintained and full exploration of creativity and least restrictive alternatives are reflected in the care and support planning in collaboration with an MDT approach.
You will support staff in facilitating discharge planning for those who may require a package of care when leaving hospital to prevent a delayed transfer of care.
You will retain a frontline role; maintain your SWE registration, AMHP role and role model exceptional social work practice.
You will supervise junior members of staff and support the pathway manager in delegated functions.
Social Work Learning Academy (SWLA)
On appointment, the post holder will be auto-enrolled in the SWLA and aligned to the appropriate British Association of Social Work Professional Capabilities Framework. The relevant SWLA stage (i.e. stage 1 (ASYE), 2 (Social Worker) or 3 (Advanced Social Worker) will also be agreed taking all prior Continuous Professional Development (CPD) and relevant experience into consideration.
