Practitioner Psychologist at HMPs Five Wells/Fosse Way

Information:

This job is now closed

Job summary

You will be joining a team of committed and innovative psychologist practitioners working in community OPD services across the East Midlands, to support screening and triage, provide consultancy, formulation, training and supervision, to Probation Service staff providing Offender Management in Custody (OMiC).

This post will be split across two locations - HMP Five Wells (Wellingborough) and HMP Fosse Way (Leicester), both of which are privately run and modern prisons. This new post is within a working environment that promotes trust, safety and support and is greatly welcomed by the current staffing team.

For both prisons, you will be working with probation staff with previous experience of working in the community, who have a good working knowledge of the OPD services, and understand the specialist knowledge and support you will bring to their new custodial services.

We invite applications from Clinical or Forensic Practitioner Psychologists from diverse backgrounds to join the team, as part of our expanding Health and Justice Services. Newly qualified Band 7 psychologists are encouraged to apply for a preceptorship role with a view to supporting progression to Band 8a within 2 years.

The role requires a degree of travel and working across locations. We welcome discussions around the geographical locations of the post and remote working. There may also be opportunities to work alongside the other OPD staff to support professional development and service delivery.

Main duties of the job

You will support Probation Service staff within the prisons to work with complex, high-risk people on probation with trauma histories and personality difficulties in a psychologically informed way, with the aim of building robust therapeutic relationships, increasing engagement, and reducing the risk of future harm to self and/or others.

You will need to liaise effectively with senior Probation staff who hold operational responsibility for this important area of Probation Service delivery.

You will support staff to complete screening and triage of cases. You will provide case consultancy, formulation, and training to Probation Service staff providing Offender Management in Custody (OMiC).

This role is one of several posts provided by the MPFT to work in partnership with Probation Services to provide OPD Pathway services across the Midlands. The post holder will be offered support, clinical supervision, and training opportunities within MPFT and by the national OPD Pathway team.
