Recruit to Train Psychological Therapist - Cognitive Behavioural Therapy

Do you have a passion and desire to develop your Cognitive Behavioural Therapy skills and work as a psychological therapist?

This role is an exceptional career opportunity, with a 2-year training post leading to a permanent band 7 Psychological Therapist position.

We at MPFT, with the support of Health Education England, are offering two trainee psychological therapist posts within which you will undertake an intensive two year Postgraduate Diploma in CBT with the University of Exeter. The second year of training will specialise in working with people with a diagnosis of psychosis and bipolar. The post-holder will work within the service providing formal psychological interventions whilst undertaking the diploma. Progression is inbuilt, the post-holder will be recruited into a band 6 position whilst training and upon successful completion of this course, will be offered a substantive Band 7 Psychological Therapist position and be eligible for provisional accreditation with the BABCP as a CBT therapist.

The posts is based within:

Older Adult Mental Health Pathway, Park House, Cannock (negotiation of base possible in the south Staffordshire area)

Main duties of the job

  • Working within the IMHT or Older Adult Mental Health pathway, dedicating the majority of time engaging in the clinical provision of evidence based psychological interventions with clients experiencing significant mental health problems or activity directly related to this.
  • Ensuring the continuing development of a person centred, recovery focused model of care, enhancing service user and carer involvement.
  • Management of a defined client caseload delivering interventions in accordance with NICE guidance and giving consideration to the needs of the carer/family.
  • Engaging with a wide spectrum of agencies, statutory and voluntary to enhance client care and minimise social exclusion and to promote, by example high standards of care and positive values.
  • Advising and consulting with team colleagues on the psychological therapy component of care packages and treatment plans.

We are looking for an experienced clinician with experience of working with people with complex mental health problems and who is motivated to develop their psychological knowledge, skills and practice. Candidates will be required to attend face-to-face teaching blocks as required by the University of Exeter, in the first year this includes a week teaching block in January 2024 and a week teaching block in April 2024. All other teaching and training sessions will be delivered online. Candidates must be able to complete all the academic components of the course and have the ability to integrate training into practice under supervision. All applicants will need to be available to start in their roles on Monday 1stJanuary 2023.

This means having a recognised Core Profession (nurse, OT, social worker, counsellor, art therapist).
