Job summary

We are seeking an Old Age Consultant Psychiatrist to join our dynamic and forward thinking services, which are transforming to work more closely with our communities and our local Primary Care Networks

This is a Permanent full-time (10 PAs) post in Old Age Psychiatry. The emphasis is to provide timely and comprehensive assessment, interventions and treatment to service users and their families/carers, whilst working within a multi-disciplinary team format.

We are looking for and Old Age Consultant Psychiatrist with the interest in providing clinical leadership to the team as part of a collective leadership structure, which shares responsibility for ensuring that the care delivered by the service is safe and of a high quality standard.

The post covers Community Mental Health Service work related to functional older adults (65+), as well as to those suspected or living with Dementia and challenging behaviours. This is a community post only and there is no inpatient responsibilities.

Main duties of the job

The role enables dedicated OA Consultant input into one of our five Integrated Community Mental Services (CMHS) located across Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin for those aged over 65, as well as providing Consultant input into our Specialist Dementia Service. You will be expected to provide community care and treatment, with the facility for assessment of referred service users, flexible review of complex service users and timely discharge in liaison with General Practitioners.

The post is aligned to North Shropshire area, which comprising of one PCN. In total, there are two Adult Consultants and one Older Adult Consultant that cover the area, alongside the wider Multi-Disciplinary Adult Mental Health and Dementia Teams.

The role involves providing clinical leadership to the team as part of a collective leadership structure, and providing support and supervision as required to Advanced Nurse Practitioner and Non-Medical Prescribers. The post holder will have responsibility to supervise a trainee attached to the team, although as with any training post this is subject to trainee availability. Opportunities are also available in the Trust to participate in postgraduate and undergraduate education for Junior Doctors and medical students from Keele Medical School.
