Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the well-established Midlands Metabolic Bone Centre, which incorporates a Medical Metabolic Bone Clinic, Nurse Led Osteoporosis clinics; Bone Densitometry Scanning (DXA) and the Fracture Liaison Service (FLS). The aim of Fracture Liaison Services is to ensure that patient's over the age of 50 who have had a fragility fracture are identified, investigated, treated, provided with information and monitored. The service currently covers both Stoke on Trent and North Staffordshire. We are looking for an innovative Band 3 Medical secretary to support the Fracture Liaison Service. The post is 34 hours per week and will be predominantly based at Bradwell Hospital in Stoke on Trent. It is part of the wider Rheumatology Service and as such will have access to mentorship and support from a range of multi-professional colleagues within the specialty. Main duties of the job

  • Support the team in the delivery of a comprehensive administrative service to a specialty team
  • To be able to provide support for queries relating to the consultant or subspecialty team, delegating as appropriate.
  • Responsibility for handling telephone and other communications with sensitivity and confidentiality using personal judgement and acquired knowledge to assess each situation and to deal with accordingly.
  • Liaise with medical team and appointments department to arrange, cancel or alter clinical commitments to contribute to the smooth running of the department.
  • Provide information and pass on advice to patients, relatives and carers relating to appointments and admissions within own role.
  • Responsible for sorting and distributing incoming/outgoing information in a timely manner.
  • Development of and adhering to Standard Operating Procedures in order to improve patient care and processes to continually improve service delivery.
  • Prioritisation of work for others which will involve resolving conflicting diary appointments and schedules.
  • To co-ordinate the day to day workload of the secretarial team within the department, addressing issues when they arise.
