Job summary

Our team is expanding and we have an exciting opportunity for Specialist Physiotherapist to join the Midlands Partnership Foundation Trust Post Covid Syndrome Service, in Staffordshire and Stoke on Trent.

We are developing our service to respond to the changing clinical need of post covid syndrome. As such we are looking for highly motivated individuals, who are keen to make a difference in this new and rapidly evolving clinical area. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to influence the development of this service alongside the operational lead, clinical leads and clinical colleagues.

The team provides high quality assessment to patients across Stoke on Trent and Staffordshire who present with symptoms of post covid syndrome.

Main duties of the job

You will be part of the Allied Health Professions (AHP) undertaking a specialist role within the Post Covid Assessment Service providing specialist assessment to patients presenting with post covid syndrome following the MPFT Long Covid assessment pathway. This includes providing advice and onward referral for therapy/diagnostics. This assessment work is predominantly provided remotely, however patients will be offered face to face where required. The role will also include delivery of the newly developed fatigue anxiety and breathlessness groups, which are delivered across the county. Therefore the ability to travel across the Staffordshire area is essential.

  • Demonstrate at all times the Partnership Trusts Values and Behaviours
  • Be a specialist physiotherapist and have a detailed professional and clinical knowledge. The post holder will have experience in respiratory and be responsible for the assessment, advice and onward referral of a caseload of patients with respiratory conditions who present with Post Covid Syndrome.
  • Be responsible for a defined population of service users.
  • Be skilled in the assessment of complex/specialist care/support needs and in the development, implementation and evaluation of care/support packages for patients and families
  • Have supervisory, training and leadership responsibilities where appropriate, and will have some responsibility for team performance and service developments/improvements.
  • Demonstrate initiative and be creative in finding solutions to problems.
  • Work with the team leader undertaking delegated tasks in team management.

    Main duties and responsibilities

    • To adhere to and apply the Health and Care Professions Councils (HCPC) standards of proficiency and the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP) Code of Members Professional Values and Behaviour and all relevant guidance from the Partnership Trust. To be professionally accountable and responsible for all aspects of own work.
    • To establish and maintain effective working relationships both within the Partnership Trust and with external organisations in order to meet service requirements and support and demonstrate the Trusts equality values.
    • To assess new service user referrals and care/support needs. Assesses service users and contributes to the Long Covid MDT service offering specialist advice and onward referral and signposting to core MPFT services and secondary care/primary care as required.
    • To maintain and develop skills and knowledge to deliver a range of interventions, setting an example of good practice to other team members including skill sharing. Delivers teaching and training in specialist area to the wider workforce.
    • To work with individuals and carers who may find it difficult to engage with the service or aspects of the service resulting in uncooperative or challenging behaviour that has to be managed.
    • To use specialist knowledge, skills and expertise when working in changing environments and across professional boundaries.
    • To frequently and directly maintain contemporaneous and accurate records as required by the Partnership Trust and in line with professional standards (HCPC and CSP). Support identified team members giving guidance and direction where appropriate.
    • To deliver a high standard of intervention, whilst managing the demands of unplanned aspects of the role using innovative problem solving techniques.

  • Degree in Physiotherapy from a CSP recognised training establishment
  • Current HPC Registration
  • Relevant Specialist Post Graduate qualification and/or courses and/or development (e.g. professionally recognised courses in specialist area)

Desirable

  • Modules at Masters level
  • Evidence of further clinical study
  • Evidence of experience within respiratory care
  • Up to date student training.

EXPERIENCE

Essential

  • Clinical experience across a variety of specialities, including respiratory (acute and chronic) and elderly care/rehabilitation acquired through at least 2 years post-registration rotations or equivalent
  • Relevant experience to the role including assessment and management of various conditions within the area of clinical speciality
  • Ability to manage time and caseload effectively
  • Supporting service users, families and carers in dealing with issues within the area of clinical speciality.
  • Working in a multidisciplinary team.
