Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Practitioner Psychologist (Clinical Psychologist/Counselling Psychologist) or qualified and experienced CBT Therapist to join our Early Intervention in Psychosis Service (EIP) in the South Staffordshire locality. Whilst relevant experience in working with EIP/psychosis is desirable, there will be opportunities for relevant training to scaffold knowledge and skills so this is not essential.

Main duties of the job

  • You will be an experienced Clinical/Counselling Psychologist, or Psychological Therapist, who will be part of a small team responsible for the provision of a psychological service. This will incorporate complex assessment, leading to psychological formulation and treatment planning, under professional clinical supervision; and forming judgements to inform service provision and providing necessary psychological interventions.
  • To provide input to and being based within a psychologically driven Team, to attend team meetings and contribute to the team's processes and functions and to liaise and work with other areas of Mental Health as appropriate and as agreed with the Team clinical lead.
  • You will be experienced in providing psychological therapies and will be accredited, or in the process of applying for accreditation in CBT. Other therapies may be of benefit but not essential, as training could be provided in line with PDC, with additional experience in other therapeutic approaches too. They will have flexibility to work with referrals from across the whole of the geographical area, plus out of area working remotely.
  • You will work autonomously within professional guidelines and the overall framework of the Trust's policies and procedures. In so doing, will be responsible for adhering to professional ethics and standards. Will be accountable for both professional and clinical actions.

Within EIP we take a team around the client approach, working collectively to provide a tailored multidisciplinary package of support that champions the role of psychosocial interventions to reduce distress and promote social/occupational functioning and wellbeing. As such, the successful candidate will demonstrate the principles of recovery in practice, ensuring the care we deliver is respectful and meaningful to each client and reflect the individual experience. Alongside specific psychological interventions with individuals and groups, the role also entails supporting the work of the team as a whole and a degree of flexibility and initiative is expected. In line with the ethos of an assertive outreach approach to care provision, the post-holder will carry a smaller caseload and value the benefits of community-based interventions with a willingness to adapt their practice to promote engagement.

The team provides input to people across South Staffordshire, working out of bases in Cannock, Stafford, Lichfield and Burton, as well as peoples homes, GP surgeries, other public settings, and occasionally inpatient settings. Due to the variability expected within the role, the successful applicant must be able to travel across the geographical area. We anticipate that the role will be predominantly cover the localities of Lichfield/Tamworth/Burton.

  • It is a condition of employment that the post-holder is registered with the Health Professions Council (HCPC) and eligible for BPS registration as a Chartered Clinical/Counselling Psychologist, OR as a Psychological Therapist is registered with their core professional body - e.g. Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).
  • Post-graduate doctoral level training in clinical/counselling psychology (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996) as accredited by the BPS, OR Post-Graduate accredited qualifications as a Psychological Therapist.
  • Post-graduate training and professional accreditation (at least applied for) in EMDR, plus knowledge of other psychological approaches, being accredited by the BPS, BABCP, EMDR Association UK&I, etc.

Experience
